I do not like dual
coils period! But, that's just me, there are those that love them even tho' I can't figure out why for the life of me.
I'm with you!
I vape primarily from carto tanks with two 3.7v mods, until recently when I just purchased a Provari. My first tanks were the Smoktek DCT in both sizes, with the propriary dual coils that came with the tanks. The only option seemed to be what resistance to order (I had settled on 2.0 ohm after deciding the 1.7 ohms were too hot for me) and whether to get pre-punched or punch my own coils. Didn't really consider any other options.
Well, I have to admit, I was getting what I considered more than my fair share of cartos getting a burnt taste. I believe I'm experienced enough to observe whether the cartos are wicking enough juice or not, and I believe that they were. But still, I was getting that burnt flavor more than I liked.
Did some reading here on the forums...single vs dual coil cartos...dual coils draw more current from batteries with little if any benefit in vapor or flavor...need at least 4.8v to effectively power dual coils (I was only using 3.7v devices)...
Well, I can't explain the physics or science part. I only know what I was experiencing and I thought maybe there is a better option. Let me give single coil cartos a trial.
My next order of cartos came from Smoktek. I got 2 ohm single coil tank replacement cartos, with either one or two holes pre-drilled. I replaced all the dual coils with the new single coils in my stable of several tanks. After three weeks of steady use, I have noted as much if not more vapor production, similar flavor and throat hit, a moderate increase in battery duration, and best of all I have not experienced any burnt taste.
I know there are proponents for dual coils, but to me, dual coils were a great idea that never panned out in real life.
