I imagine this topic has been discussed a million times already however I was unable to find what I was looking for. I usually run a boge single coil 3ohm carto at around 4.6 to 4.8v.. I'm going to pick up some 2ohm dc carto's however I like battery life and warmer vapor. Should I stick with the single coils? or will the 2ohm dc do me well at around 5+ volts? I have been a bit of a fan boy as far as the single coil stuff goes, sticking to it religiously. Should I give those dc carto's a try?:unsure::unsure: what do you all think?
I'm running a provari with the 18650 and a l-rider vv..

That would give you 6.25 watts at each coil. Fairly cool vape in my opinion. Plus you are asking the battery to produce 12.5 watts to get it, so a big reduction in battery charge life. You would get a lot of vapor which also means a lot of nicotine, but not as hot as the 7.5 watts you are getting from the single coil. The higher nicotine volume gives the impression of being hotter than it is. Simple rule of thumb; anytime you inhale more vapor - you also inhale more nicotine.

Do the math. A 2ohm dual coil has two 4ohm coils. What do you need for a nice, warm vape? Say 8 watts.
To get 8 watts with a 4 ohm single coil, you'd need about 5.7 Volts.

    5.7^2 / 4 = 8 watts.

    You'd be pulling about 1.4 amps (5.7 / 4 = 1.4)

Now, turn that 4ohm single coil into a 2ohm dual coil and you double the current you draw.

    5.7V / 2 = 2.9 amps. That's beyond the Lavatube's limit of 2.5 amps.

So, you can't even get to 8 watts per coil on a 2 ohm dual coil carto.

The most you can hope for is 5 volts. (5 / 2 = 2.5 amps)

Instead of 8 watts, you'll get 6.25 watts per coil. And, you'll be drawing 2.5 amps to get it.

    So, here's you choices:

    1) Single coil - 8 watts at 1.4 amps.

    2) Dual coil - Two coils, each at 6.25 watts and total of 2.5 amps.

Thanks Sailorman, You have responded to a few of my posts with technical details that help a lot. I have a provari but I use the l-rider for work (as its more easily replaced if it gets stolen out of my work truck). I really need something that works on both. I will give the dc a shot maybe use them with my provari but I guess i'm pretty limited with my preferred style of vaping to my trusted single coils.
    Thanks again everyone!
