Slide area on Whidbey Island, WA. that has been on the news so much lately. This was taken from clear across the bay near the Fort Casey Ferry Docks. Look very closely at how much dirt went down the hill! That is 1/4th. mile of bluff that slid! Also look at how close it got to the houses!

The whole island is made up of base layers of Rock, gravel and clay. The geologists say that where it has been drier this year than normal the bonds between the 3 elements has dried up and unattached themselves from each other causing instability. Geologists are watching and gathering info daily about the area infected and fearing that another section of that hill side will let go!

I've been watching this on the news. It's weird to see all those trees at the bottom that slid. I feel bad for all the people that own property there; not only the ones in danger of sliding off, but the ones whose property value is most certainly affected...
