Hi all, I've been wondering about something and finally decided I'm just going to ask. Since acquiring my two Odins I've noticed that when I use one of my smaller atties like my Divo, Cyclone or RM2 I pick up a certain taste that isn't there with the Odin. It's sort of a metallic taste, at least that's what it seems to taste like to me. This taste is being picked up on my Grand, my mini, my VVG and my woodvil with the small atties. All of my smaller atties have the stock airholes and the Cyclone does not have the AFC cap. So I'm wondering if the airholes being stock are what's causing this. Has anyone else who uses both the small atties with stock airholes and larger atties with AFC noticed this difference in taste? I used to think I was getting great flavor from the Cyclone and RM2 but since using the Odin the Cyclone, Divo and RM2 seem to taste funny to me. It's such a big difference in taste that I'm not wanting to use the smaller atties now.

I think I have coil placement and wicking down pretty good but airflow on these smaller atties is pretty tight. Like sucking on the worlds smallest straw lol! At least that's how it feels now that I've been vaping something with the AFC wide open. I never noticed this off taste until trying wide open AFC.

Maybe you can experiment by partially covering the air holes with your finger. All i have ever used is the RM2...

eta: at one time i read a thread about making a cover for the air holes. Some people used a o-ring.

I hadn't thought of trying that, thanks yolo. So I just tried that on the Odin. I closed the AFC until the airholes were tiny and covered one with a finger and flavor went way down. I didn't get the metallic taste though. I've no clue.

I will say that when I've done experiments with RBAs that have different chamber sizes but not as big a difference as Odin to Divo. The different sizes highlight different flavors in the juice. I've found smaller chambers bring out higher, sweeter, fruitier flavors and larger chambers bring out darker, deeper earthier flavors.

OF course YMMV

I could see maybe smaller ones with stock holes but, Do u use the AFC with the Cyclone, & if so u still get that taste? I've only used the bigger attys but since getting my Reo I really wanna try a Cyclone with AFC. Gotta have AFC lol. Is the AFC on Cyclone pretty good wide open or No? Is it like Odin 1/2 way open, hopefully that makes sense?? Obviously can't compare to Odin or bigger attys but I'm just curious?

Actually Myah my Cyclones have the stock non AFC caps so I have no experience with Cyclones with AFC. Wish I did though so I could see if the AFC made the metallic taste go away.

I find fairly significant changes in flavour profile with different atties (and coils, and wicking), but never a consistent undertone with one family of atty versus another (e.g., small chambered versus large). Wicking yes (non-KGD cotton, for instance), the atties themselves, no.

I'm thinking it might have to do with your inhaling style relative to the atty used. Are you mouth2lung hitting on the small atties and direct lung hitting on the Odin?

I'm going to experiment with a variety of juices to see if I can't figure this out. I've been on a virus/wakonda kick so haven't vaped much else for about a week. I'll throw in some apricot with my Divo and some super fruity liquid in my Cyclone tomorrow and see what happens. Right now my Divo has a mix of Crème Brulee and Virus and it's got that metallic taste.

Yes Papa, mouth to lung on the small atties and direct to lung on the Odin. I did do mouth to lung on the Odin tonight with the airflow pretty tight and one airhole plugged but I didn't get the the metallic taste. It's all kinds of strange.
I love direct lung hits, 97% of juices taste better to me. There are some juices that are better with MTL hits. Maybe play around with that also.
