Smok Tech Dual Coil 1.5 Ohm, possible bad batch?

I decided to try the smok Tech Dual Coil 1.5 carts. I ordered them from vaping Zone, they arrived yesterday. I've read a lot of good things about them, watched some video reviews, everything I've seen has been positive regarding them.

So far i've had very poor results. Less vapor, weak hits, have to take longer draws just to get good vapor. I thought maybe i had a bad one, so i opened another... same results. The regular 2.0 single coil Smok Techs (the longer ones) are performing WAY better.

My E-cigs are Prodigy v3 @ 3.7 and E-Go @ 3.7, tried both on the Smok Tech

Anyone else had poor results from these? Or maybe i just got a bad batch that sneaked through QC??

Also, i'd like to measure the Ohm rating on these, i have a multimeter, where do i stick the probes to get a good reading?

I didn't order mine through Smok Tech, but my hunch is that many of these are coming from the same factory. I bought 3 boxes (15) from another vendor and, for the first 10 of them, I've had a 60% failure rate. I gave the other box to a friend and coincidentally he called me today and said I could have the other two back -- he tried 3 and two out of 3 failed.

They were the 1.5 dual coil cartos.

Apparently quality control is not at the top of the priority list for these things...

When you did have a good working one, how did it perform?

The few working ones worked decently on the Ego and the Reo Mini (although I would be concerned about the 1.5 long term on the Ego-- I try to stay at 2.0 on the Ego). Taste is very subjective, but it seemed to me that it sacrificed flavor for vapor. Definite vapor increase -- but flavor muted in the trade off. And it eats up juice and batteries like mad.

On the Phidias it was too much -- lotsa vapor but really diminished the taste. It was almost like vaping pure VG. I think the Phid is 3.7 like the others but it just seems to have more power. My guess would be the same on the Reo Grande.

These may have a great market for those vapers wanting that "rain cloud" but as my tastebuds have returned and I've been introduced to my particular favorite flavors (e.g. FSUSA Cocoa Chaos, BWB - 555, Malty) -- I really want to taste them.

I'd really like to try a few 2.2 to 2.4 level and see how those fared -- but I think I'll wait until the quality control methods are improved. 4 working cartos out of $22.00 -- I'll stay with my Boge's.

Overall on the Digger scale: (C is not a bad grade -- it means average LOL)

Life: (C-) They seem to die about 20% earlier than my standard baseline Boge 2.0
Flavor: (D) - mutes flavor
Power / Vapor: (A) - produces vapor well above average
Looks: (C) - Looks like a regular carto.
Ease of Use: (C) - Same... works like a regular carto. Just have extra juice and charged batteries nearby.
Reliability: (F) - serious QC issues to address.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to know i'm not the only one having issues. Interesting to know about the change on flavor with them also. Although i'm not pouring anymore juice into these damned things to try and find a good one.

Also, i dug up my multimeter. I measured the 2 poor performers, and one unused one. They all came up at 1.4-1.5 .. the .1 variance i probably due to ElCheapoMultiMeter. For grins i measured a couple single coil Smok Tech's they came in at 2.0 as advertised.

WOW! Mine are 2 weeks old with no failures and I am a chain vaping fool. I wonder what the problem is???

I haven't had one issue with mine either and I have gotten 6 boxes or so from 3 vendors, 3 clear 3 steel, all have worked great, I have even taken mine apart and ran the filler and coils under hot water, pad dry on paper towel, rolled them back up once there Dried and put them right back in, let em sit for a full day to dry and refilled them. They worked like new again, there was one small burn mark in the very middle on the inner blanket which washed right off.

Me too. I have used at least 30 of the DCs between 2 of us and no failures to date.

Does anyone else use a prodigy V3? I know, for example, the E-Go and 1.5Ohm Carto's is not really recommended, and certain E-Cig have switching problems when running at such a low resistance. I would have thought the Prodigy V3 would not have a problem at 1.5 using a 3.7V battery. But maybe it is??...

Anyone else use a Prodigy V3 @ 3.7 with the SmokTech 1.5Ohm Dual Cartos?? If so how did that work out for you?

I think I've just been buying SUCK-... batches of cartos - SmokTech, Boge, and a few no-namers.
Believe it or not - I had 2 cartos that came with my NJOY NPRO Starter Kit and those suckers lasted me a month each. But they're high as hell at Pilot Travel Centers - $20 for a pack of 5...

Could be...
You just need a battery that can dump the kind of current to get a dual coil working well.
To me they can be pretty wimpy at 3.7v. Get them up to a little over 4v and they rock. I personally run the 2 Ohm ones at 5v.

These dualies at 1.5 Ohms are like running two 3 Ohm atties off the same battery...so much on the cool side with batteries that are more like 3.4v on average under load.

You might get them rocking on your Prodigy if you can find some really nice High Drain batteries that'll hold up in the 3.7v range under load for a while before they drop off. Also, the 1.25 Ohm dualies might do better on that mod (if it has a switch that can take the current/amps).

Can you stack batteries for 5/6v vaping in those? You'll definately want a switch that can handle up to 3 amps of current.........but if you can rock a 5 or 6 volt combo in that mod...you'd definately be in bussiness! As for the eGo...don't bother...wimpy vape and it's likely to kill your battery in short order.

Here's step-by step (for digital multimiters):

1. Turn your multimeter on and select the lowest Ohms setting, usually 200Ω.
2. Look at the display; the left side of the screen should display number 1.
3. First, test the resistance of your leads. Touch to two leads together, firmly, and wait for numbers to stabilize. On the right side of the screen, you should see a number between 0.0 and 0.4, or so. This is the resistance of your leads. Remember that number.
4. Now, to test your atty. Position your carto firmly on your desk; you don't want it to slip and slide all over the place. Touch one lead to the hole in the center of the atty and the other lead to the threads. Again read the display after the numbers have stabilized.
5. Subtract the resistance of your leads (#3) from the resistance of your atty(#4). This is the resistance of your atomizer.

This process takes some getting used to. Steady hand helps. Just keep practicing and you'll figure it out.

Not so good. I am having problems with the dual coils on my Prodigy V3.1 at 3.7 volts and ego batteries also. The smok tech 1.7ohm are working great though. I ordered some from two different vendors. I'm scratching my head on this one. I have some boge 2.0's and they don't work either.

Maybe they're not making good contact with the top of the battery?
Get a tool of some sort and see if you can pull the center pin in the bottom of the carto out a bit to ensure it makes a good contact.

So. The Update on these 2 dualies: I took one apart and repacked it after a brief dry-burn. It vapes fair at best. The other one I didn't take apart, but, as I couldn't just toss it just yet, I picked it up again day before yesterday and it's vaping decent. But I've already noticed vapour getting less as of yesterday evening. I expect it to die completely today.. I have a 3.7 Volt BoxMod I've been using it on. Also vape with a 70PG-30VG Mixx of e-juice. I tried it out on my 6 Volt Mod and vapour production was no better.

I checked that and it doesn't help. I even tried a 510 to 510 extension, same results. They fire and produce vapor but performance is poor all around. The 1.7ohm work perfect, like night and day. Guess I'll just sit on them till I figure this one out.

Zoid I have to say I like the 1.7 XL cartos better then the dual coil cartos, I use the 2ohm DC's at 4.6-4.8v and they perform OK for me but I'm an Atty man most of the time. HV-510 by Iken is my go to at 5.7-5.8v that's my daily vapor for right now.

Hit wise DC all the way Zoid !!
