A friend at work told me about a radio ad he heard on ESPN: Smoke Assassin. I had already gotten him into e-cigs. They offer a "Free" kit and he was going to order one as a spare. I went to the site to see what "free" meant. Smoke Assassin Quit Smoking Today

It would appear that it is possible to get a "free" (plus $9.95 S&H) cig, but it's tricky. you get a unit (don't know which): Single atomizer, battery, USB charger, and 4 cartridges (Filterette) they make the usual claim that 1 cart = 30 cigs. They price this kit at $99.95.

What makes this deal really bad is the Free Trial agreement:

PREFERRED CUSTOMER PROGRAM: If you purchase a free trial of Smoke Assassin, you will be automatically enrolled in our Preferred Customer Program when you agree to the terms and conditions of the Free Trial Offer. You will not be obligated to stay in the program for any amount of time, and you can cancel at anytime. You will receive a Smoke Assassin Starter Pack that is a $99.00 value for FREE and only be charged $9.95 to cover the cost of shipping and handling today.
In 7 days as a Smoke Assassin Preferred Customer, we will be sending you a full months supply of Atomized Filterette Cartridges (20 Cartridges) for only $69.95, plus $9.95 for shipping and handling. You may call our customer service toll-free at 1-800-604-9575 to cancel or customize the timing of your preferred customer shipments. Customer service hours are Monday through Friday from 9am-6pm EST.
Please note that if you wish to discontinue membership, you MUST cancel prior to the next shipment to avoid being charged. No refunds will be granted for orders once follow up orders have been shipped. By pressing the "Submit Button" below, you have acknowledged that you have read and agree to the terms of the Smoke Assassin Free Trial offer.

So, you get enrolled at $80 per month for 20 carts. That's $4 per cart. Twice the ridiculous price SE charges. This deal shows that, like printers, the profit is in the refills, not the hardware. l have a RN 4081 and can do 2-3 good carts per day. Their refills would last me about a week. more like $80 per carton. Analogs are about $60 a carton here.

Anyone feel like trying to beat their 7-day rule? I imagine that once you get the cig the deadline will have passed and you will be on refill #1.

I called a week ago Sunday. I'm not afraid to make calls like this and was interested in the product. I knew they were going to try to upsell me but this was wickedly obnoxious.
First I held for 7 mintues until they answered. Then they tried to say that while the ad on the radio said get 4 cartidges and the machine for $9.99 to cover S&H that I had to actually buy more to get the advertised offer. I didn't agree and they had me on hold for 3 more minutes to go to the friends and family area... I hung up.

I heard the ad today and called; got to someone immediately, and had almost the same conversation. But the ad said I can get the 4 cartridges and the machine for $9.99 no mention of having to buy the 30 days worth for $69.00.

Odd.

Not good in my expectation.
