Smoke detectors?

Hi PV Vets,

I apologize if this has been brought up already but I have not found this issue in the forums as of yet. Thinking about the differences between vapor and smoke, has anyone done any research or is there any first-hand experience (!) with the interaction between vapor and smoke detectors? Is it possible to set off a smoke detector, say in a public place with vapor production?

My experience has been that smoke detectors do not seem to care. I have never TRIED to set one off. Staying in non smoking hotels (recently even one that said it would charge much $$$ even when you left if anyone smelled smoke) has been no problem. I try to be discreet and low key.

Doesn't set the ones in my house off or anywhere else I've stayed, for that matter. I did read that it will set off the kind installed in the lavatories of airplanes, but only if you blow directly into it. I've had no problems vaping in there, however, as I just blow towards the floor

Yes, it's been discussed. Smoke detectors cannot tell the difference between smoke and vapor but, and here's the good news, as long as you aren't vaping right next to it, or blowing vapor directly onto it, the chances are pretty slim that you'll set it off.
