I know there is a lot of talk here on ECF about the terminology we should be using for our nicotine delivery devices. The term "Electronic Cigarette" seems to attract a group that is sure they know what it is and how bad it is for you. They know that it is a tobacco product and that nicotine is what causes cancer. They know that those things are filled with antifreeze and other chemicals that are bad for you, but all that brings me to my thoughts on the topic...

If it were called a Personal Vaporizer when you found your first, would you have given it a shot? I don't think I would have. At least not until I saw a ton of people using them, but would they have started using a "PV" in the first place? Don't get me wrong, I don't have any problem with using the term PV. As a matter of fact, I use PV to my advantage sometimes.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Would you have made the switch if your first exposure was to a Personal Vaporizer instead of an E-Cig?

First of all, nicotine is not a carcinogen. Secondarily, but for the single mishap of a manufacturer using non-medical grade PG, e-liquid does not bear any resemblance to antifreeze.

The e-cig vs. PV debate over semantics is a bit long in tooth, having been raised and tossed around many times in here. FWIW, had the Chinese named these things PVs from the start, I'd have tried them—provided it was made clear to me that they simulated the act of smoking and contained nicotine.

I think the OP was being facetious in regards to common misconceptions lol.

As far as the addressed topic, I'd say I try to direct people away from the term "e-cig", but in light of the concern whether I would have tried a "Personal Vaporizer" to relieve myself of analogs, I'd have to say that I doubt I would have. This is a good topic in that it does shed a light I had not seen before. Although, when someone inquires, "Is it like one of those electronic cigarette thingies?", I respond, "Yeah. It's comparable, but mine's better." :)

I tend to refer to mine as my nicotine inhaler. The term 'inhaler' is used heavily for medical purposes, and thus doesn't carry the stigma that 'cigarette' does -- and it explains precisely what the device is for me -- a smoking cessation device that happens to also be an alternative nicotine delivery system much like the patch, the gum, etcetera. :)

I think you mistook me. I know better than to think that these devices are not antifreeze laden etc. I was just reciting the same tired words I hear from people telling me why my nicotine delivery system is so bad for me. I especially love it when they're telling me this while sucking on an analog.

I like PV but with that term you run the risk of confusion with the personal vaporizers that are used to vaporize plant material. Surprisingly, or maybe not, you CAN by those on amazon

It is funny that you can buy obvious paraphernalia from various online sources that do not allow our products (to be named at the end of this poll).

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think it shows how much of a blockade is up against PVs especially when the loophole that they use to sell a pipe or vaporizer that is intended for "plant material" is that it is for tobacco use.

That said most of the companies blocking the sale of electronic cigarettes/PVs are citing that they are a tobacco product.

...I especially love it when they're telling me this while sucking on an analog.

I met a chick smoking something besides a cig and she informed me I couldn't smoke around her (when I was a smoker) because it was bad for her. Boy, did that get my blood pressure up...

Anyway, I was more attracted to the getting away from all the chemicals and smoke and carcinogens and just bad cigarette stuff, so I don't think the term would've swayed me much. It would have been more fun for them to be called hoopty-doopty-loopties or something colorful like that, but I couldn't have said it with a straight face, so ecigs or PVs works for me.
