Smokeless Image/Volt

Another Newbie question!
I have been reading and reading and I do believe I am going to go with the Volt from Smokeless Image to begin this experience out on the right leg. My question is do I go with an automatic or manual battery?

If you want the cigarette experience, an automatic is the way to go. The manual gives more control over your vapes, and is also better for dripping. It's also truly sealed, so there's less danger of damage in case of leaking.

If you do go with the Volt, I suggest you go straight for the cigar-sized X2. A 650 X2 and a pack of cartos costs less than a starter kit, lasts 3 times as long as a 78 mm standard battery and the charging cable is included.

I started with the Volt too, and think Smokeless Image is an awesome company.

My suggestion is to get the manual, because if you decide you want to try different 510 threaded stuff it won't work with an adapter on an automatic.

The button really isn't an issue. You adapt to it in no time. If I had gotten the manuals the automatics wouldn't be collecting dust like they are now. It just gives you room to expand your horizons.

I went with an automatic 808 battery 78mm length. About size of a 99's/100's cigs, not too flashy. I may try a manual in the future but I think I selected too high of a nicotine content as I can't ever reach the cutoff without coughing. (12mg and 18mg) I love the battery and the cartomizers have great reviews. Easy to use. I was a bit disappointed in strength of flavor and seem to get pretty harsh throat hit but I think it has to do with with nicotine content.

Hello lovestoscrap, I too just started vaping. I currently have the Volt...Unfortunately, I picked this up at a local smokeshop rather than the site itself. Pretty happy with it as my "first" was from NLA something called the OVIS. Which I frustratingly threw in the trash after having to replace two clearomizers within a week or two. I must say if you are a noob like myself, puffing with the tank attachments is abit different...as I think thats what caused my OVIS to die out so fast. The thing I like about the volt, even if you go with the cigarette sized one...I believe the X2 tanks are compatible with them since I have one myself. Anyway...good to see another person on board!

I have 3 auto Volt batts, and 2 of them seem to have issues with the draw being way too airy. Maybe try one auto and one manual to see what you like? Then get more- you will need backups, after all- of whichever you like the best.

Also, get the 78 mm upgrade. Only $1 per batt gets you an extra hour of vape time!

I've recently picked up a cig-a-like volt myself on a whim. I've been vaping for a while, I direct drip and vape all the time so a larger manual battery is a must for me, but the volt is an excellent choice for a new vape curious person such as yourself. Smokeless Image is a good company with fair prices. Later on you may want to upgrade to a mod or ego twist for more options and less battery swapping for charging.

If you can afford it, I'd suggest one each of a manual and automatic. You'll want 2 anyways to use one while the other is charging. Manual batteries are normally prefered for the reasons stated and you quickly get used to it, but autos are fun too and you get to do hands free vaping. I picked up an auto and was suprised how far they've come in the last couple years when I first got a kr8. The battery is almost completely sealed and the sensor that picks up when your vaping works much better then the old ones. I also liked the nano clearomizer they sell. I only get about 1 and 1/2 hours on the battery but it's great for when running an erran and may last you a lot longer between charges.

Before I would stear new vapers away from cig size and/or automatic batteries but now view them as a great, fairly cheap introduction. And volt is probably the best cig size battery out there.

My dad had an automatic one, but eventually he switched over to a manual and loves it. Imo, they provide a better experience.

I started with smokeless image and the volt a month ago and love it. I did change to the X2 battery almost immedately. I ordered both an automatic and a manual. I do prefer the automatic. I personally don't see much difference in performance other than having to push the button. You will need 2 batteries anyway so order one of each to see which you prefer. I also switched from cartomizers to the X2 clearomizer almost immediately and love it. Good luck!

It didn't take me long to grow tired of needing to switch out batteries with the 78mm Volts, being that they only last 3-4 hours between charges. If you are not diligent about charging them right away after they are drained, before you know it you are down to zero useful batteries and have nothing to vape on. Don't give yourself any more reason to buy another pack of cigs.

If size isn't going to be the end of the world, go straight to the X2 batteries. The smallest size gives you over 6 hours between charges, the next size 9 hours, and the longest gives you 13 hours. These perform better than the smaller batteries, too, if function is considered over form. During the first few days, I liked the automatic, but I soon preferred the manual buttons and continued to order new batteries in the manual button format.

Hi, and welcome to ECF! I have both the automatic and manual Volt X2 batteries, and they are great! I do prefer the manual one though, as I just find it to be a better overall experience. Whichever you choose...I'm sure you will love it!

I have the automatic batteries and I dont think I will ever go back to the manual button type. I can put the automatics in my pocket and never worry about misfiring the button. I honestly dont think there is much difference in performance over the manual automatic types.
One thing to note is that smokeless image sells sealed automatics, not unsealed as a previous poster stated. the draw is likely to be a little tighter on a sealed battery but probably not enough to matter to most folk.

I larger ego sized batteries too but i prefer the small batteries for convenience. I have 4 batteries and a couple of chargers. this way i always have a fresh batteries on hand. i also had a pcc case but i droped it one time from a height of 2 feet onto a carpeted floor and it broke. im not sure i would recommend them any more. its just easier to go with more batteries.

As always Baditude is right. He just gave you all the information you need to make a purchase.
As for me I started with the 78mm batterys (for work) One in automatic the other is manual.
Then got two more same set up. (for a back up) Now for home get the X2 1300mAh. I would suggest the manual x2.

I have a bunch of V2 longs both manual and automatic. I just bought the X2's from smokeless Image. Both are manual. I like it because I can control the vapor with the manual. They can both be turned off/on for transporting. I like the passthru function too. You can charge and vape at the same time.

The larger battery size makes a huge difference. I won't be ordering any more "cigarette style" batteries. The volt x2 is my go to battery now.

I think I've got this right from my understanding of how automatics work.

An automatic battery works by the flow of air going through the casing and activating the battery itself. On the old Gen1 batteries, there is a hole down the center of the battery post to allow the passage of air through the cartomizer and into the casing to activate the battery.

The "sealed automatics" moved the air hole from the center of the post to the sides of the post. This helps to protect against leakage from the cartomizer getting into the casing and damaging the battery, but there is still air flow going into the battery itself to activate it. And if a bad enough leak occurs, juice could still get into the battery and short it out.

Like I said, this is just based on my reading of how the automatics work. Either way, there are advantages and disadvantages to both automatics and manuals based on your wants and needs. As long as it works for you.

I too am a serious fan of the VOLT products. I really like the X2, which I get as a manual. It's a bit bulky tho, I like to dangle a smoke from from my mouth as I go about things. Which is why I also really like the 78 mm (these i get as automatics). Thier being the same size as an analogue, lets me use them just like I would a real analogue. And I don't have to press the button to vape when I would need a 3rd hand to do so. I am waiting on 3 more of the 78's right now, and 1 manual X2. The 78's for on the go and the X2's for relaxing and lazing. Also, my 78's don't collect dust. I keep all my batteries charged and have a different flavor on each. Then I just exchange 1 vaporizer for the next. I always have a charged bat ready and a wide variety of flavors (to reflect the mood and the moment) already attached. Lots of bats just means more convenience to switch flavors.

I went with one automatic and one manual volt as my first purchase and I am very happy. I like both of them for different reasons and am glad I have both. I use one and then switch and charge the other. I already had wall and car usb adapters so I just bought the charger part and not a kit to save a little $.

I went with volt myself for my 1st order. I went with 2 automatics. I would suggest if you are heavy smoker or vaporer you will probably wanna check out the 78mm at $1 more. Only reason i went with the 65 is cause of my habbit and its very low. I cant give your pros or cons on volt though cause i havent got my starter kit yet.

I started with and still use volts. On my very first order, I intended to order 2 autos, but made a mistake and ordered 1 auto and 1 manual. I'm so glad I did. For me the auto is awful...and I've been all manuals since. The manual is just more natural...draws more like a cigarette. IMHO
