And of course they have to end the story with "what about the children". Of all the minors I've encountered over the last 5 or so years, they don't buy they're cigarettes, they're parents do!

Children shouldn't be vaping, period. They should be asking a homeless person in front of the 7-11 to buy cigarettes for them.

Seriously, if I found out that a kid I cared about was vaping, I would just be glad that he or she isn't smoking. And then I would ask if he or she needs help filling his or her carto.

True. It all starts with parenting. Not to preach, but I will never vape in front of my child.

disturbing tidbit at the end of the article ..

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is developing a strategy to regulate "this emerging class of products as tobacco products."

The agency has said there is a tremendous amount that is unknown about e-cigarettes. It also warns that nicotine is highly addictive, regardless of how it is delivered. The administration is also concerned about the availability of the product to minors through the Internet.

Meh. There's ample evidence that it doesn't really matter what you do in front of children. The children of smokers who are adopted by non-smokers smoke at the same rates as the children of smokers raised by their biological parents, and vice versa. It's far more genetic than environmental. It's a safe bet that your kid would also enjoy nicotine, so demonstrating that it can be used in a way that's less harmful might do more good than harm.

It's just a personal preference. Maybe in the same way some people do not swear in front of there children. I am by no means a closet vaper. I have nothing against anyone who does. I just don't feel the need to vape in front of my kid.

Understandable. It was gracious of you to answer my intrusive question. Thank you.

Lets be honest here. There is still things that are unknown when it comes to e-cigs. They have not been around long enough for long term observation. One thing we can all agree on is that they are much better than analogs any day.

I'm a smoker from 2 non-smokers. Go Figure. I'm not going to hide in the closet to vape and make my daughter think her mom is doing something "naughty". Children need to learn to think for themselves and hiding them from all of the evils of the world doesn't do a bit of good. I'm not encouraging shooting ...... up near the wee-ones by any means, but vaping and having a glass of red wine doesn't make me a horrible person or mother.

I am a smoker from two non smokers as well. It's not like I am hiding my vaping. I choose to vape when I am in private or when my kid is not around. I barely even vape around my wife. Again, it's a personal preference. I'm not calling anybody a horrible person for doing it.

There's evidence that moderate drinking in front of your children will make them less likely to binge drink than if you never drank in front of them, so a glass of wine in front of your kids is probably a good thing.

Leave it to the FDA for the "kids sake." I smoked around my daughter who is now 21 and she NEVER smoked in her life. In fact, she was the one that tried to get me onto ecigs 3 years ago. I should have listened. Adults don't give kids enough credit to be able to think for themselves. Kids are smarter than we were and the vast majority avoid smoking all together. It's just an excuse the FDA uses to try to figure out a way to regulate them they way they want to.

I wonder if they aren't just behind on their information and are referring to previous attempts to regulate it, as the FDA has said they will abide by the ruling that they have no jurisdiction over electronic cigarettes as they are a tobacco product, etc etc.
Journalists are notoriously lazy these days and just take information that is in a search rather than really looking into issues.
