Hi Alex, and welcome.

The itaste v3 is really popular. I have one and really pleased with it. You have made a good choice because there is a huge variety of tanks with are compatible with it, so you have a lot of options. The one downside of the itaste v3 is the battery life. It is a pass-through, which means you can continue to use it while it is on charge, but if you don't have access to charging throughout the day you will probably want a spare battery.

Have you bought a kit with a tank, or just the battery? If you know what the tank is, let us know and we can help you get the best out of it.

Happy vaping!

Could someone explain this tank stuff to me? And the differences between them?

What Panda said. :)

One of the main things about them is a "tank" is easily refillable which is cheaper than buying prefilled cartridges. They can also be disassembled for easy cleaning and the coil head (where the little heater coil is) can be replaced. I mainly use Innokin iClear 30s tanks and when a coil head goes (as they will), I pop in a new one. They don't die everyday or anything like that but the coil is the part that heats up repeatedly so it can't last forever. Mine cost all of $3 and while I haven't sat down and figured how long mine last, I get a decent amount of use out of them by rotating them and doing an overnight soak.

A good tank is also, I think, a more satisfying vape. My iClears do pretty well on vapor production. Sometimes, like watching a movie, you'd think a fog bank had rolled in my living room. :D

Firstly, welcome to ECF and good luck with your future journey into vaping. As for your PV/APV purchase, it's a lovely start. In terms of your tanks, there are two types that are super important, really. The bottom coils and the top coils. Bottom coils would be like the Aspire Nautilus, Kangertech Evod, Kangertech Protank 1, 2, 3 and the mini versions of each, Kangertech Aerotank and the other versions of it. Top coil tanks are typically plastic and I can't name many of them as I don't use them, I'm fairly certain that CE4 tanks and possibly the iclear tanks are top coils. Bottom coil tanks wick easier and give better taste, imo. Top coil tanks...ehhh, they're easier to refill, but that's about it imo. Then you have your glass tanks, plastic tanks and stainless steel tanks. Plastic tanks are good if you think you may drop it as they won't break. However, certain juices can eat through them and you'll have to buy another. They are the worst tanks, imo. Glass tanks are much more breakable than plastic tanks, however, they provide better taste and will not typically crack with most juices. Stainless steel tanks are typically a mod for certain glass tanks. They are essentially top of the line (They tend to cost the same price as the full glass tank). The stainless steel tanks are the best of both worlds. They give good taste and if you drop them they won't break. Now, you've got your dual coils and single coils. The main difference here is that a dual coil produces more vapor and tends to produce warmer vapor. A single coil, however, is easier to deal with and typically cheaper. The ohms of a coil determine what voltage you can safely vape at. Typically, a lower ohm coil tends to provide more vapor and better taste as long as you don't overdo it with the voltage because it will burn the juice if you do.

Pretty long post, but I hope it answered some of your questions.

Most iClears are top coil but the new X.1 is bottom dual coil and Pyrex. Haven't tried one yet but planning on it...

I have a totally wicked bottom dual coil that I really like; hits pleasantly hard but airy for a moderately cheap clearomizer. Don't take it apart too much though! I gave mine a rinse and disassembled to speed up drying time, but accidentally found the coils, rendering it unusable for the time being.

Or take it apart, just have some spare coils handy :)

I think it's equivalent to an Aspire CE5 BDC, which is probably a more popular product. I don't know if the replacement heads are interchangeable, but the whole units look pretty darn similar.

It seems alright so far. But obviously, I don't have much to compare it to.

When you go to the vape shops they'll usually let you sample flavors. It's the easiest (and cheapest) way to find one you really like. It'll be easier to make the full time transition (as others have said). In my first 6 months I never berated myself for having an analog. The 600 other chemicals are almost as addictive as nicotine is and you will crave a cigarette even if you're getting the right amount vaping. Eventually I got to where I couldn't stand the taste of the cigarette and it was my first day as an ex-smoker. That was April of 2011. Just moved on from an iTaste SVD and protank 3 to a panzer clone and a rebuildable drip (IGO-W) atty. Best setup I ever had.

I quit smoking by accident! I got into vaping just ot have something else to "smoke" along with cigs and cigars. Once my nervous system realized that I got the same results from the nicotine in e-liquid, I was hooked. I stopped cigarettes after about 6 months of both cigs and vaping.

I'd suggest getting a variety of nicotine strengths. 24mg, 18 mg., and 12mg. to start. You'll want more or less nic at different times of day. And having a lower nic level (12mg.) will allow you to vape for much longer periods of time. At this point you are retraining your body to associate vaping with all the "pleasures" it got from smoking.

To stay off cigarettes permanently, I'd suggest almost overdoing the vaping for a month or two. Vape all the time, don't let a craving sneak up on you. Before you know it, you'll have a new habit. And you'll realize just how discussing you used to smell!

Good luck with your quitting, Im 48 and had been smoking since I was 16, I was amazed I was able to transition over to vaping so easily. I originally tried a menthol to taste like the smokes I was giving up and it was so so, what really made me swich was buying a flavor juice I liked and in no time I found I was going for the vape pen and not a smoke cuz it tasted better then when I did break down and have a cigarette 10 hours later it tasted like s**t compared to the vape. Good luck.

Another "oops, I quit smoking!" :D

Me too. I was getting my regular carton when I saw the Blu display and got one on impulse just wondering what the heck an "e-cig" was anyway.

Puffed on it as I drove home and thought, "hm... tastes kinda nice". But still thinking of it as some novelty. A toy.

NINE HOURS LATER.... realized I hadn't lit up a cig. In fact, the pack was on the counter where I left it when I came in the house. Only reason I know it was nine hours later is I went digging for the receipt to see the time stamp. Stood there staring at it a while. Just... stunned. Me? Forget to smoke? ME???

Two days later, I returned the unopened carton of cigs and told the lady behind the counter, "I think I'm quitting smoking". Said it just like that. I was in a daze the first couple of weeks. :)

Hello everyone. I'm 24 and have been smoking for nearly 10 years, not incredibly heavy....but between 7-15 a day usually. Tried vaping once before, but it was a petrol station pen, and I did manage to cut down. But eliquid starting leaking into my mouth (yuck!) and I gave it up as a bad job.

Anyway! I recently purchased the itaste v3, and now just waiting on delivery. Was this a good purchase? Anything I can do to make this a better experience? new to all this, and also need help with a lot of the abbreviations!

Thankyou for reading!
Alex

By the way, just in terms of encouraging you, I'm 52, started smoking around 16. Stumbled into vaping March 2013 (and showed up here, clueless as anybody). Smoked a greatly reduced amount over about six weeks or so then mid-April, the last pack in the house ran out and I never bought another. So... 15 months or so now? And I had a two pack a day habit (40+ cigs).

Can't imagine ever going back now. Cigs seem... boring? There's plain and menthol. Blah! :)

I just got a kanger evod in the mail yesterday (not a top of the line setup but its what I could afford) I have not had a analog in 9 days and surprisingly enough I don't even have a desire to smoke one. Hang in there you can do it!

I started with Evods as well but hated the Evod taste it gave my juices. A similar tank that uses the same coils is the Mini Protank 2 or 3. They are all stainless steel and glass so no flavor restrictions on your juice, the glass is cheap and easy to replace if needed and they don't affect the taste of your juice like the plastic ones do. Discountvapers.com has the Mini protank 3 for 9.99 last I checked. I love mine, the dual-coil give awesome flavor and I have the airflow control valve so it is basically an Areotank mini. Got that from same site for 5.29.

I still have 4 evod tanks sitting around I never use anymore, trust me make the leap to glass and u will not regret it.
