We have a spare lot next to the house and my son put the pool there. Of course, he isn't around that much (except to get into it) so guess who gets to take care of it.
They are a lot of work.

My daughter and son-in-law have an above ground pool for the kids mostly. She says the upkeep is a lot of work and expense but it gets the kids and their friends out of the house for a while so she'll keep doing it.
