That's cool good for you. Whenever, I'm out and see a snake I have to check it out. I always let the kids look but not always touch. Just because they can be delicate and I won't let them run around with them that's for sure. We have two small ones that are always fun to find and let the kids handle. The grass snake and the brown snake. They are both very mellow snakes.

Happy Easter and keep having fun.

Neither here nor there
I gotta problem with snakes. They taste too darn good! Havnt done it for years but I used to walk the desert around here at the right time of year and "catch" a few of the rattley ones... They always seemed to be missing their heads. :D Little light batter and cooking oil and you have a very tasty snack.

To eat the one in the first picture, you'd better get 500 of them, some Alfredo sauce, and a big pasta fork.

I don't believe I have ever seen a snake that tiny. But I have seen worms much larger :)

i still check before letting them get near the item i am looking under.. when they hold them I have them squat down and just cup their hand if it takes off they let it go. most of the time they just want to send the snake back home and put it in their hand and they set the snake down to crawl under the wood or tin it was found under..

I have always wanted to go to Aus to catch snakes.. i have all the equipment to keep myself safe. just do not have the cash to take the trip..

mmmm tastes like chicken!! (yes, I've eaten some)

i wouldn't be too proud of that. the old geezer was in the snake's lounge room and he killed it for no good reason. downright cruel!

you won't be catching any snakes here in oz.... they are protected.

I have enough connections through working for ppl to get permits for catch and release..

its to the point there that the only things not protected are cane toads, and rabbits.. corals from there have been hitting pet market bad

Yeah those are way too small .. those ones do not get much larger than that.. around 12-18 inch.. have only ate rattlesnake that was found hit by cars every time i go out to southern IN to catch and take photos will find some on the road twitching after someone hit them..

Yeah it's getting to be that time of year again. I work for Animal Control here in North Texas, and we've gotten our first two calls last week. Here just about every snake call is a "rattlesnake" but when I get there only about half are. As far as the (on going) to kill or not to kill debate - I agree with both sides. Me myself I love snakes I have 2 3ft Pythons we seized during a drug raid that I'm fostering until we build a bigger facility where we'll put them on display. I even like to go road herping which is when you drive down a low traveled country road at dusk and you find a ton of snakes warming on the gravel. I catch and release or if it's something interesting I'll throw it in an aquarium to display later. Every once in a while I'll do presentations of local reptiles for the schools and 1 or 2 churches. All snakes we catch at work I release for them. On the other hand when people ask me about killing them I tell them I really don't care. If there scared of snakes -Shoot it there's plenty more. As for the record length one I definitely would have captured it alive that really was a shame, but when it comes to eating Rattlesnake- too many bones to really enjoy.

50% of Purdue Calumets reptiles and amphibians preserved for their herp class I collected for them.. passed that class with enough extra credit in the first week.. asked for a list of extra credit catches then told the teacher i would be back in a week took a trip and got everything on the list but one since it would of needed to be a doa catch since it was endangered..

I applied for animal control when i lived in TX they did not hire me..

later on I figured out why.. it is a gov job.. I should of took the application set it down had a few cups of coffee.. then answered 3 questions put it down to go on break.. come back talk for a bit answered a few more questions.. go to lunch for over a hour.. then finished about half.. turned it in and said this is good enough..

lol waiting to hear all the poor bunnies..

I used to be given so many large pythons and gators.. they like them when they are small eating mice.. then they got to the point that it takes 10 large rats or a rabbit or 2 and its too much..

zoos wont take them unless you know ppl that work there well enough to get them in there to take care of them..

all i have now is 2 african spurred tortoises.. once i move into a house that i plan on staying at for a long time am planning on some dart frogs..

I'm in total agreement with you Wenchy69. And 100% approve of Lab's practice of "snake hunting" with his nephews. When I was a kid I used to "hunt" lots of critters ... and release them unharmed. There are many, many people who feel that snake = kill. It is sad. And there are some people who thoughtlessly kill/torture other kinds of animals too. I wouldn't want to have one of them for a neighbor.

nothing angers me more! living on the land myself, i am constantly putting myself in danger by catching and removing dangerous snakes from our house yard and away from our pets. sure... it would be simpler for me to kill them instead, but i could never ever kill an animal. the snakes were here long before we decided to call these acres our home. respect..... we all need to respect the wildlife.
