Agreed, you do what you pay for. But when the terminology, the linguistics of the situation is so foreign it really makes people hesitant to adopt the tech.

To put in layman's terms ... sure $160 is nothing compared to the cost of cigs, but as an e-cig newb i dont know what I am paying for.

Am I just throwing 160 away at nothing?
I can't help about the technology and terminology. It is what it is. If you are willing to put in the time to learn, you'll pick it up quickly. Just about everyone here has. And there are many people here on this forum more than willing to help you along the way. Just ask more nicely than the way you began in your first thread on this forum.

The Provari is one of the few "sure things" available in this technology. It has been one of the top rated mods ever since it came on the market. Just read the previous forum threads about the Provari in this blog that I wrote:

Why Provari?

Full of word-of-mouth testamonials, right? And no, I don't work for Provape, the company that makes Provari's. I, and most owners, just believe that it was the best investment that I (we) have made since I began using my first cigarette size battery 2 years ago. I believe so much in this mod that I now own three of them. First rule in vaping...backups for your backups.

Wow, I like riptrippers,,he's informative and entertaining. I'm glad I'm not a pothead, an Asian or an Acura owner. I've made a living for my wife and 3 children working on cars with body kits and subwoofers for 21 years, glad folks like that exist. Although I've found the terminology somewhat daunting, I'm hardly the type to let words chase me away from something I've found interesting. I simply ask what something means and folks explain it. I guess some wires connected to a battery and a heating element might suffice for some folks, but have you ever had to carry around a battery with some wires connected to it in your pocket? I've had so many people ask me what the hell am I vaping on that has lead to great conversations and in the end, led folks to,give e-cigs a try. I like mechanical mods. I think they look cool and if I want to spend a hundred bucks on one, that's my right. Last time I checked youtube vapers were being represented by many types of people, not just rip. Btw, did you watch the riptrippers video about how vaping has changed his life? You don't want to be a part of the community yet you registered on the ECF? Don't bs us and claim to be the general public. Have you spent anytime reading responses to questions new people have posed? Obviously not. The general public doesn't even know about the ECF. The general public is being educated about ecigs in 7-11 and smoke shops that now sell ecigs and some bull.... articles they read in the paper and on facebook. A better alternative for you might be to go take some anger management classes and stop looking at your hair in the rear view mirror. I hope you stay on the ECF, responding to your posts while I lay in bed vaping on my 200 dollar reo gives me some warped sense of satisfaction. Perhaps my Asian friend mike and i can laugh about this when he picks me up in his Acura tomorrow on the way to the body shop.

Jason Smith... This forum is what you make of it. We are a community for the most part and willing to help each other out. Then there are the people that have been on it for years and rarely post except when they have the need to have a question answered. The terms used are because it is a developing culture. There are plenty of acronym guides on here and even some that state in the simplest of terms what each item is. While I do think the terms can be difficult for a new person, a simple week of watching the forum will assist you in learning the new lingo. Likewise, it is no longer just a flashlight... Cars were once known as horseless carriages. The old name never made it to main stream society because it no longer adequately describes the item. While, yes, you can turn a flashlight into a mod, once it is used for 'smoking an electronic cigarette' (aka vaping as the old expression is not accurate and antiquated), it is no longer a flashlight but is a moderated flashlight or a mod(again...no need to use moderated flashlight as it is no longer really a flashlight).

Now, as a Spanish language major with a master's degree in language and a strong background in linguistics, I will gladly debate the etymology of the current lexicon as it pertains to vaping and continues to develop because no language is exempt from linguistic evolution.
This does not appear to be the issue. It appears that you came to a forum to simply argue.

The only time a new person does not get the help they seek in the forum is when they appear to be attacking the vaping community. Even then, we as a community, try to assist them. If you wish to be one of the members that stays a long time and rarely comments except to ask questions when necessary, then welcome! If you come on here to insult, belittle, and in general attack the community... Good luck, we are a proud bunch and do not break as easy as a Blu starter pack does. If you came here and meant to encourage an intellectual debate that was not intended to attack anyone ub to pose questions, welcome! We do love a wonderful conversation and debate to better understand a wide array of topics and hope to further promote vaping as a potentially safer alternative to smoking.

Listen, don't get me wrong, all are welcome here at the ECF. That includes Jason and everyone else who wants to be here. I've only been vaping a few months. It's changed my life, not just got me of the analogs, oops, I mean cigarettes. I've started a social group here, a facebook group for people in my state and county, I've requested to be an official sub charter of the national vapers club. Everyone in my family and I mean everyone that smoked now vapes. My wife, my mom, my uncles. I've got the vapor chef and the vapor still sending me samples for giveaways at the local meetup. I've got bumper stickers on my cars and my friends have bumper stickers on their cars. Hell, I'm a member of a 12 step fellowship and some of my fellow members are going to start a vaping meeting. I'm in my local b&m, oops, brick and mortar vape shop every day buying vision spinners and t3s's for people so they can quit smoking (the store credit is kinda sweet too) I've probably bought at least 20 starter kits for people. It's not just a better alternative for me. It's not just about me not smoking anymore. It's about the power of one former smoker inspiring the enslaved to put down the lighter and pick up a battery. I love everybody here, cause I'm alive. I don't smoke anymore. 8 years ago I put the needle down and I'm just as passionate about that too. So I can't afford to hate, but I do like to bust somebody's chops when your talking smack about something that saved my life. Vaping, the ECF and all good people. Vape on!

Okay, here is just one woman's viewpoint on some of what you're complaining about. I am a 72 year old grandmother to 18 wonderful grandkids, married for 49 years to the same man. I would say I live a pretty conventional life, with a few detours in my younger days.:)

I also smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day for over 45 years, and really wanted to quit. I knew absolutely nothing about e cigarettes, other than I had seen some Blu commercials on TV which intrigued me.

I am not at all technologically inclined, hate math, and wouldn't know what an "ohm" was if it smacked me in the face.

That said, I have had no trouble whatsoever with the terminology and linguistics that I found on this wonderful forum. From the day I joined here a little over 3 months ago, I have been treated with the greatest kindness and patience. I've asked dumb questions, and then more dumb questions, but I have never been made to feel "dumb" here. Someone always was patient enough to try to understand what I was trying to say, since I certainly didn't know the terminology to ask.

I totally disagree with your notion that the general content of the ECF forum makes people hesitant to pursue vaping. On the contrary, there is something for everyone here. If you want to blow big clouds, someone will help you. If you want to just quietly and discretely vape, someone will help you with that. I don't want to rebuild anything, or wind any coils, but if I did, this would sure be the place to find out how to do it.

What I wanted was to find an alternative to killing myself with cigarettes, and I certainly found that here.

As I rest my posterior on a flat object made of wood, fabric and Styrofoam material, looking at my liquid crystal diode display unit, I process the thought that my corporeal existence is improved without the burning of paper, vegetable matter and thousands of toxins. I don't care if I am using a glorified flashlight to do it, but talking about it surely much easier with terms that my fellow users easily understand.

And every human subgroup needs it own special language. It is how we communicate.

BUT I have a few criticisms:

  1. RBAs Tanks are way better than the Protank system, but the whole winding wire stuff is for hobbyists...
  2. Stop letting these people represent you:
    RiPTrippers on youtube...
  3. Stop reinventing the wheel. 'Mechanical mods" are flashlights without the bulb. Don't BS yourself and think I am going to pay you 50+ dollars to basically provide me with a flashlight housing.
I think e-cigs are a viable alternative to cigarettes but there is a serious public image thing going on here.

1. You can buy premade wicks but they suck. Maybe you should try a nautilus?
2. If it weren't for neologisms we'd all still be speaking like cavemen.
3. RIPtrippers don't represent me. On the other hand, I defend their right to say whatever they want. ECF is a community not an authoritarian government with sovereignty over all vapordom.
4. Buy whatever you want. It's your money. In the meantime I'll buy whatever I want. Thanks!

As long as we're criticising, I just thought I would return the favor. Vape on! :vapor:

So I adopted ecigs a while back when a 510 kit cost $50 and that was that cotton wadd hitting a crappy little screen atomizer. That may work for some but it wasn't enough for me.

So I went came back to the fold recently. I liked my protank... it was good but I just got a kayfun 3.1 and now I am content with my nicotine delivery. BUT I have a few criticisms:

  1. RBAs Tanks are way better than the Protank system, but the whole winding wire stuff is for hobbyists. I want the flavor and delivery without the winding wires. Some dude is reading and I am hoping will be inspired to design the plug and play kayfun clone thing. By that I mean no screw drivers, literally plug a new wick in and start smoking/vaping (what should I be calling it now?.... that was a rhetorical question)
  2. Stop coming up with nicknames for crap
    Mechanical mod = battery case
    analog = cigarettes
    RBA = ?
Everyone does realize this is just a heating element on a battery right....Stop coming up with new terms to describe stuff we already have described everyday, before e-cigs came along. Your new vocab means nothing to me and chases me away from adopting something that could be beneficial to me.
  3. Stop letting these people represent you:
    RiPTrippers on youtube
Seriously this guys looks like a serious pothead. I dont have a problem with potheads but e-cigs are directly related to them because of every head shop carrying them.
    Case in point:
    via vice.com /read/our-e-cigarettes-are-going-to-melt-our-faces-and-burn-our-houses-down
"The hobbyists, particularly the modders—a.k.a. the type who buy body kits and big subwoofers for their Acuras"

Sorry I cannot post links, so there will be some manual effort with the above references.

I'm not one for harsh words very often but look dude,

1. Your new here. The terminology has been established long before your 13 posts. Get over it

2. RiPtRippers is one of the most innovative rebuildable experts in the industry and has the respect of a lot more people than you do. Just because he looks scraggly and has a different sense of humor than your used to doesn't allow you to talk negatively about him.

3. RBA's aren't necessarily better than protanks and vice versa. Some people like to tinker and get the performance they like, some don't. These ideals are SUBJECTIVE.

4. Sure, a mech functions with similar principles to a flashlight, but I think Baditude already covered that.

So this begs the question, what is the point of your post? Completely unnecessary. If you don't like the forum, don't post on the forum.

brickfollett out!

If you found yourself in a foreign country that used a different language and found it difficult to communicate with the locals, would you be critical of the people because you don't understand their language? They may dress differently, wear their hair differently than you, and have different customs from you, too.

Or would you make an attempt to learn the language, make some friends to help you, and try to fit in with the culture?
