So I'm just getting started on rda's and I got my first coil built for me. I pretty much have all I need to know to get started on building my own coils. The only thing I have left to figure out is if there is any difference in wick sizes. I keep looking and I keep seeing between 1 MM wick to 3 MM wick. What's the difference in wick sizes? Do different sizes get me different vaping experiences?
Any info/advice is greatly appreciated.

In my experience:
1mm wick = Doesn't hold a lot of juice, dries out fast, good for short drags.
2mm-3mm wick = Holds more juice, great for longer drags.

Then again, you can always fold your wick over itself.
I personally prefer 2mm folded over itself once.

So it is basically just the amount of juice that it can hold?

Basically. No taste difference, as they are the same material.
I personally use cotton. Never liked the taste with silica. Torched/Untorched.

Cotton is cheap, easy to work with and it's easy to thread a new wick through you coil should you burn it.

Cotton wick or actual cotton?? So there is a difference in the taste of a silica with to a ekowool or cotton wick?

You can use cotton yarn or cotton balls. Just make sure it's organic and non-bleached.

Oh no, there's a big difference in taste between Silica, Cotton and Ekowool. I meant there's no difference between the 1mm and 3mm size.

Okay so I think I know what size I will be getting.
What's the difference in taste?

You'll want to boil cotton before using it.

I taste my liquids so much better with cotton. A lot of people prefer cotton over anything else, but it's all personal.
Give each material a shot and see which you like the best.

With silica, I get a "silica" taste with my liquids. Even if I torch it. (Same with Ekowool)

Thanks for the info stranger. I appreciate it. I'll try the ekowool before I try cotton. I have been told multiple times that silica is not something I want to mess with so I think I'll stay away.

There are a bunch of different options when it comes to wicking material for RBAs or RDAs. Silica, cotton, hemp, cheese cloth, tea bags, SS mesh, SS rope, hollow ekowool, ekowool with a cotton core, ekowool with a silica core, and the list goes on. Each of these options will have their fanboys and nay-sayers. There are so many factors that play into choosing the right wicking material that you just can't say one is better than the other. For example; I like the flavor of cotton over any other wick, but my preferred setup is a ~.8ohm dual coil dripper on a mechanical with 3mm ekowool with a cotton core. The reason I don't use just plain ol' cotton is because it tends to burn. And I don't want to get caught away from my supplies with a burnt up atty. SS rope is, IMHO, the best vertical wick you can buy. But you would normally wrap the rope in mesh for better contact with the wire. For some people, the added trouble of dealing with 2 different wicking materials outweighs the benefit of either. My point.... Experiment! Buy some short pieces of a few different wicking materials. Or get some scraps off of one of your friends that vapes. Until you've tried it, you don't know if its right for you. There are multiple threads on all of these materials. Hope you find what you're looking for!!!

I use ekowool and it works well. I fold mine once or twice and find that 28g wire is good.
A good way to build is wrap your coil around a screwdriver (or something around 3mm diameter) then thread the wick through the hole, just make sure its nice and snug.
More wraps means higher resistance and thicker kanthal means lower resistance
