I've been using my ego-c setup for a few weeks now. At first I had a lot of issues with it and I only used it on and off because it was leaking so bad. I had to bring it in every day to the guy I bought it from and I eventually ended up buying the clearomizers from him when he got them back in stock as those seemed to be the only way it would work. Finally I had a way for it to work after spending $80+ on this kit to help me quit smoking analogs!

Now that I'm vaping this frequently and consistently it seems that the taste has gone from good to burnt. I thought maybe it was just me so I switched from one clearomizer to another. Switched the liquid. Cleaned the clearomizer (jeez, I hope I am using the right vocabulary...). Today I even went and bought new flavors. I had been using Menthol with a touch of strawberry. Today I bought some caramel to see if that made a difference. At first the caramel tasted awesome! But sure enough after a few pulls it turned burnt! I read all through this forum and I am making sure I am not constantly pushing on the button when not drawing on it. I am sure to keep it full so the wick is covered. I tilt it just to make sure, hell I even turned it upside down at one point and got a mouthful of liquid!

The store that is local only sells the Ego-C and these particular clearomizers so I don't have any other options unless I go online. The other mouth pieces I had were white translucent plastic pieces that went on top of the atomizer inside of the metal upper piece of the ego-c. The clearomizer replaces those three pieces. I was so relieved that this takes the place of those items because they were leaking no matter what I did.

Am I doomed to either have a burnt taste or a leaking ego-c? Are those my only choices? This is ridiculous!

between here and there
Hello and welcome to ecf.

From what I can see from the pic, I don't see any writing on the clearomizer (right above the ribbed area). This may be a clone of the real thing. The real one should say I clear16 WV/VV. At least that is what it looks like to me. I use the I clear 16 from INNOKIN(the original one) and have not experienced any problems. They do sell them on ebay, so if you are concerned about unknown vendors, you can try there and I have a link if you would like.
Let us know.
:)

hi kimmelee,

I believe the issue you're having is with the heating coil, which can be easily exchanged in most tanks or clearomizers.
If you have time to sift thru this forum, there are lots of good vendors listed, I think DiscountVapers is one of them. Their service is good,
prices are great as well, and most important they carry genuine Kanger bottom coils (which in my opinion are the best and longest lasting ones available). I'm vaping approx 3-5 ml juice on a daily basis, and one of those coils last 10-14 days.
Also you might get more vape time out of your coils be soaking them in some grain alcohol (cheap vodka has been recommanded most often) over night, rinse it with clear water and let it dry.
When you fill your tank or clearomizer, let it sit for a couple of minutes, so the wick can absorb the juice and doesn't dry fire, that can cause burnt taste.

Here is the website for the place I go to:
Great Northern Woods Electronic Cigarettes, retail online store, eliquid, new hampshire | home-copy1

I do let it soak in for a while before I start to use my ecigarette. Thank you for the tip. How do I go about cleaning it before I use it? I guess I can search for a post on that here if someone doesn't have the time to tell me.

There is no writing on the clearomizer so I would say these are knockoffs. The website and the store name is Great Northern Woods. The guy that runs it doesn't seem too bright. It's an older gentleman with his son who is in his late 20's. I just didn't want to start off with something from the Internet. I wanted to go with something that I could touch and see and feel rather than putting a lot of money into a website order and not knowing what I was doing.

The taste is annoying but not enough for me to stop completely. I'm fiddling around with it and seeing if maybe it's the Menthol or something. The guy said he doesn't have a lot of customers who buy the Menthol. I kind of wonder if that may be it too. I did order one of the tanks that have a coil at the bottoms just to see if that will change the taste. Of course, he's closed on Sundays (tomorrow) and I'm disabled so I ordered it through the website because I didn't want to have to beg for a ride across town. I'll let you know when I get it if it works.

Maybe after I figure out how to clean what I have that will change the taste. Thanks for the help. :)

Since you said the taste has gotten worse, I think it's just buildup on the coil.
Don't know what clearo that is but it might be similar to the CE5 or nova
I have to burn my nova off every week to prevent a burnt taste. Been using the same coil for months.
-remove the clearo and empty it
-rinse it out with water
-unscrew the tank from the base
-lift off the soft plastic piece from the head(where the wick goes in)
-rinse the inside of the head and wicks, gentle with the wicks
-blot the wicks semi-dry with a paper towel
-put it back on the battery
-fire it until the smoke stops coming off it. you'll have to do it in bursts to keep the battery from shutting off. the coil will glow red
-remove it from the battery, let it cool for a few minutes
-rinse and blot dry again
-reassemble

burn off.jpg

It's ready to go and should taste like new again (It will take a few puffs to dry the water). Sounds like a lot but it only takes a couple of minutes.

If the wick is fouled (black after burning it off and rinsing) there's not really much you can do. It won't wick as well because It's clogged.
Soaking it in vodka will help but in my experience it's best to just replace it at that point.

I completely understand your hesitance toward investing in online vendors...I purchased my first set up / starter kit (Vamo 2 with Kanger Pro Tank) from a local store. Those guys were initially helpful and advised knowledgeably on the starter kit. Afterward, I went straight online and checked options and generally did a lot of reading up on e-cigs and what not. Which also brought me to this [awesome] forum.
Basically, the local guys started me off on the proverbial 'right' foot.
I am a firm believer in Kanger products, I have tried others (which I actually gave away to get friends started), not because those products were bad, but just because they didn't seem to perform to the standard that I got used to really fast.
If I may suggest: continue using this ego battery, but change to a different clearomizer/tank.
Another set up I use regularly is Kanger eVod eGo Battery 1000mah (Red) with Kanger Mini ProTank II and of course Kanger ProTank & eVod Coil Replacement (5 Pack) 2.2 ohms.

Looks pretty sweet too, specially with that darker base (which a lot of people complain about ) SAM_1549.jpg

I use the cheapy clone clearos that look the same as the one you have. I know mine are clones. Mine are fine with menthol flavors and I've tried several menthols.

Washing and cleaning will help but some people can still taste the plastic. Another way to go is get one that isn't plastic. There are ones made out of glass and metal. That might help, though some people say they can taste the metal too.

Hey there kimmellee, and Welcome to the ECF.
Good choice to go with the "hands on" first.
Some of the "knock offs" do have more issues than the OEM equipment, but they are getting better.

IMHO the cleros/cartos that are top coils/wicks tend to develop the burned taste quicker than the bottom coils. After finding the EVOD BCC cartos I have not gone back to the top coil/wick tanks.

Do not let this "bump" stop you, if the EVOD they have on their web site is a good knock off, or a real Kanger EVOD, that would be a great choice. The wick/coil is always down in the liquid, letting gravity work for you. :)

One thing that you may want to consider is the liquid you are using. Do you know what the PG/VG ratio is? Perhaps it is a high VG liquid which has been known to clog atomizers pretty quick in some cases...could cause issues.

I started out with the CE4 which is the non-rebuildable version of the clearomizer you have. It was a huge pain in the ..... I quickly bought a Kanger Pro Tank and 2 Mini Kanker Pro Tanks and have not looked back.

I buy my coils at 2.2 ohms, and take the top wicks out. I replace the top wicks with my own wicks because for some reason, I get a funky taste if I leave the factory wicks in there. Just the top wicks, though. I tried rebuilding the entire coil, well, that didn't work out.

You have gotten some good maintenance advice and links.
Do NOT go gear chasing until you master what you have. More mystery devices just add to confusion.
CE5 Clearomizer - fully serviceable version of the CE4 design
Can be fully separated for cleaning as well as coil/wick change.(Assuming your vender sells them)
*Not all ce5 coils heads will interchange <different lengths/caps/connection pins>

Looks like you Are Over filling. should only have liquid the the base of the wick opening.
Notice the soft cap over the wicks. Take a good look while everything is tight. Watch as you loosen the cap.
This cap causes a lot of problems. It can pinch the wicks and reduce liquid flow to the coil. All the tipping in the world does not help.

Take a small pair of scissors and snip a tiny V on each side to straddle the wicks.(Relieve all pressure)
Cap is to keep liquid out of the mouth piece(a top seal for center tube)

Look carefully at Dry burning videos and learn how to properly clean and dry burn. Option - buy plenty of heads to swap out.

Well maintained the heads can last months. I have several working over 1 year.(in rotation)

As top wick Clearomizers go the CE5 is a decent basic design. The Kanger T2 is a high end version to that style tank. Better function/flavor/durability.
Your battery is basic(no adjustment) so only order 1.8 or 2.2ohm replacement heads.

Take your time. study the parts you maintain and you will master each device you use.

Good luck

Thank you to everyone for answering. Great suggestions!

It is a knock off, but it isn't the same as the video. The inside doesn't come apart or have the soft plastic piece at the top. The middle piece is all one tube piece. This a link to the manufacturer. I found the name on the box. I will definitely be looking into getting a bottom coil tank when I get some more money. I can't seem to be able to tell what type of liquid he uses as the box doesn't say. It has a main ingredient listing and a series of numbers but no name of a company unless you consider E-Liquids a name. This is very scary to me now that I think of it. I'm not so sure I will continue to go to him. He did have information on his wall saying not to use PG, to use VG instead and I remember him talking about it saying his stuff was VG.
