A few weeks back, I guess just after Thanksgiving, Reddit was doing a promotional deal with a company called Victory e-cigs. They are your typical 'rip off' company where you buy the kit and then they automatically send you new cartridges every month for a monthly fee. Well the promotion allowed you to purchase the initial kit for a penny without setting up the monthly subscription and if you liked it then you can come back and they will subscribe you. I liked the wording that came along with the promo... here is a link to the promo.. which is now dead, btw.. Free Electronic Cigarette

Anyway, I finally got the thing on Friday and gave it a try just to compare to my other cig-a-like. They sent me the tobacco flavor even though I requested strawberry, but for a penny I'm not going to complain. I personally thought it was gross and tasted like stale cigarettes, but we all know taste is subjective. It's a decent little 510, think I will order a few empty carts and keep them as a back up for when I'm out and about and run out of power on my x2.

My only concern is the penny charge ended up posting to my card as a catagory 4 instead of a 1, a cat 4 means it is a reoccurring/ subscription type charge meaning automatic billing. A cat 1 would be your typical online/phone purchase. As I mentioned earlier, they do a cart subscription with their normal starter kit purchase. I'm a little nervous that I will get hit with a 30 dollar charge in the next few days... If it happens, you bet your sweet bippy I will be on the phone with them and I probably won't be so nice. As I did in fact call them the day I made the order and had the customer service rep reassure me that with the promotion there was no monthly charge... we will see... thankfully I work for my bank in our credit card dept, so I can get it nipped in the bud tout de suite. But if this is the case, I feel for the average joe that doesn't have the easy access like I do.

Wow I rambled lol. All I wanted to say as I got two bats, charger and carts for a penny haha... I blame that on the fact that I'm a female...:p

I started with those, got the kit free and they sign you up for 15 carts a month at 25 bucks, youre definitely going to get hit with the charge, just cancel now. I took the 15 carts and cancelled(ended up paying 25 for 3 batts, a case, chargers, and 20 total carts), switched to V2 cigs which were a lot nicer. Now im on an Eroll and the V2 with liquimax.

Those are okay i guess for something to try out and get your feet wet with ecigs but if you find them to lack a little there is MUCH better stuff out there. Good luck

I had a friend send me that link, we poked around quite a bit and found they had two 1cent kits, one with the subscription and one without. A bit sneaky if you ask me because if you started navigating around the site, the subscription kit was really easy to find, and nothing that I could see clearly delineated the two kits.

I did end up ordering the kit for my friend as he was interested in trying them (he ordered a different flavor). I made doubly sure to come in from the no subscription link before I ordered though.

See, I did the exact same thing... I googled it, checked out the feedback from a few online deal/freebie forums and made sure to order from the one that specifically stated nothing about monthly fees or subscriptions. I then even called their customer service line and the girl on the line assured me that if I ordered from the promo link then I would not get the monthly charge. But we will see. I'm not too worried, like I said in my OP I work for my CC provider in the credit card fraud dept, I can get it taken care of quickly. IF this does end up turning sour though, I feel for all the average consumers that got screwed that might not know how to take the appropriate steps to get their money back.

Oooo I feel special, I'm being quoted over there from this thread hehehe.

Slickdeals is actually the forum I read over before I decided to go ahead and order. Now I'm seeing some people are getting hit with the subscription charge and some aren't.

Truth be told, I will give the company this much... Because I googled their company, a link to ECF popped up in the results, so the same day I made that order I started to actually look into e-cigs and found there was this whole world of PVs out there and have since ordered a few eGos and also Volts and x2s from smokeless image... I've been cigarette free for almost a month now and I feel amazing. So while I'm not going to fall for their little subscription scheme, they did inadvertantly lead me into this community where I found far superior PVs lol.
