I'm a new vapor...been about 10 days or so. I got a Riva 510 kit, and other than the what I'm assuming to be newbie issues (overfilling carts or drip tips so you taste the liquid for example) its been pretty smooth sailing. But last night it basically just failed. I was getting no pull, barely any vapor on the exhale. The battery is fine, plenty of juice in that sucker. I'm assuming it was the atomizer, since I switched to another and it worked again.

My question: is that about how long atomizers usually last? 10 days seems like not that much time. Do cartomizers last longer? any other ideas? thanks

10 days sounds about right actually. Part of it depends on the juice your vaping. Thicker juices with high VG content can gunk up atomizers more quickly, as can juices with flavour sediment in them (more common with darker juices). Your atty needs a good thorough cleaning. A soak in pure grain alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and or a good run under some fast-moving hot-as-you-can-stand water (or hotter if you hold it under the tap with some pliers as I did) to really clean the crap out. A dry-burn afterward wouldn't hurt to help fry the remaining crap off either. (That involves putting the atty on after you've blown it out and shaken out all the water you can, then pulsing the button for about 3-5 seconds periodically to heat the atty up and help burn off the gunk. When you can see it starting to glow brighter, more consistently and more quickly, your atty should be back to near good as new.)

Cartos last about as long, but they don't take quite as well to cleaning and will ultimately die off completely more quickly than atomizers. (That's why they're cheaper.)

I use cartos only and have found that they can last a long time. I have been vaping since Jan. this year. Attys can last but I have had them blow out the same day. I mark my cartos with whats in them and thats what I use to refill, I also use more than one e-cig at any given time so that might help wih my life span as when the carto gets hot I use a different one. Hope this helps some

Cartos are cheaper, easier to fill and last at one par with an atomizer. You've got a Riva, I suggest the dual coil 1.5 ohm cartomizer. Vapor Junction has I think a pack of five for 8-10 bucks. A bit more than one atomizer but you get five. They produce a lot of vapor and you won't have to fill as often.

I had a regular single coil carto from vapor for life last me from the day I started vaping up until 2 days ago. Which is hm....what 9 weeks?

Others have petered out in 3-4 days though. I've tried the atty thing with cartridge, it's a huge hassle and a big mess. I only use an attny for testing out a juice. Almost all cartos I've tried have lasted in the 1-3 weeks range. I do switch them up throughout the day. Like I might take a hit off this vanilla one, then go to peach and then to a tobacco blend. It probably keeps the burning situation to a minimum.

Some atty's , and carto's too , for that matter , can last for only a few days , while others , can last for months . I personally use SR carto's , and atty's now , because for me , they last a lot longer than the LR . Less TH , and less vapor , but last three or four times longer . So , even though I have more money than common sense , I opt to save a few bucks on supplies .
