Hello,

I have been reading the forums for almost 2 years now and have been vaping off and on for 2 years. I have 3 RN4081 Batteries with Atomizers that I drip, I have a USB passthrough RN4081. I have loved them but they just have not been enough to get me to quit smoking analogs. I use 34mg of menthol which I adore, and sometimes I find myself seriously missing the sweet taste. On to my current problem. I have been looking into this VV setup for a few days and hoping it will provide the next step to get me off the "Death Sticks". I have been looking into the Vtube from Apollo, been looking at the posts on tanks. Now Tanks, would someone be so kind as to explain Tanks. I'm a simple guy. I like popping off my tip and driping 3 drops of my eliq taking like 6 puffs, letting the atty cool enough to blow out the rezz and repeat. I smoke like a pack a day and when I was vaping full time it was like every 10-15 minutes I was taking a puff and if I was MMOing and had my passthrough the thing never left my lips. I know the Vtube doesn't have a passthrough which makes me sad.

So back on topic. Tanks, what's the point? What they do? Is it better or worse than dripping, and is dripping still viable for VV setup? I was looking again at getting a Tank from Mom and Pop. I read a lot of good things from them, the Vtube from Apollo, an extra 18650 Battery, and well not sure what else. One finally thing, will my RN4081 Atty's fit the Vtube? Thank you for your time and I look forward to some info.

Tanks are basically a liquid feed system for a cartomizer. You can buy prepunched cartomizers or punch your own (put a hole in the carto to draw liquid from the tank).

As to the compatability of your current parts, if they are 510 connection then they will connect to the Vtube.

I posted this somewhere else.
here's a thread specific to it if you can access it it should prove helpful Lavatube.

As far as what I know about the lavatube. It is an fairly inexpesive way to get into VV vaping. I think the point of VV devices are 1)flexibility in attachments, ex; LR cart/atty's, SR catos/ att's stc.
2)adjustability to find the sweet spot as far as vapor production, flavor and throat hit when using different combinations of cartomizers/ atties and e-liquids (vendors and flavors) and using the voltage settings to fine tune the hit, flavor, vapor to your liking although there are limitations (I'll get there in a moment).

Lavatubes will soon be offered in an updated model and a new design like the stainless steel, copper and chrome being offered for presale from Apollo, which BTW are still using the version 1.0 internals.

The version 1.0 is a 3-6 volt VV tube mod, but many have found that higher than 5 volts the actual voltage may not quit reach the higher limits and also under load it may not be putting out the voltage that you have it set to. It is also limited to 2.5 amp output. What does that mean, basically it's the max power output. How does that affect you? It limits the adjustability or flexibility of the unit and most users to get full voltage are relegated to using high resistance carto's/atty's (above 2 ohms). Boge 2.5 and 3.0ohms cartomizers are highly recommended and as you go further down in ohm/resistance you will further be limiting your voltage range.

There is supposed to be a version 1.5 coming soon which has raised that amp limit to 3.5 amps, but uses the original lavatube body design. This will help with the voltage range flexibility when using LR cartos/atties especially when using DCT cartomizers which are usually 1.5-1.7ohms. I have seen some marketed as 3.0 DC cartomizers, but from what I have heard they are actually single coil cartomizers with the design to be used in DCT's (dual coil tanks) since they have a flange or base at the bottom of the cartridge that fits into a recess on the bottom of a DCT. I would at least wait for this version.

I have also hear/read that a version 2.0 is coming not far after the 1.5. This version is basically the new stainless steel body design with the internals of the 1.5.

This is what I know from looking into the Vtubes as I was/am interested in them. I may be wrong, I am definitely not the authority on all things lavatube, either way I have decided to wait and see when these newer models come out. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it. I'll be doing alittle more research but was looking to order a Vtube tonight. Is there a noticeable difference between dripping and using a tank and how long do the Tanks last in regards to dripping. I've had the same atomizers for almost 2 years.

Wow! What atomizers are those and where did you get them?!?

Just generic RN4081's. I just clean them out a lot. 6-10 puffs on one after 3 drops, blow it out in a paper towel. I use the same one all day taking 2 puffs every 10minutes or so. At night I take that same atomizer and put it in a cup of hot hot water for 5 minutes, take it out. Blow it out into a paper towel again. Make sure it's dry and then do it again. THen I blow it out and let it sit mesh side down on a paper towel over night. It's been a very good experience. I read about it on here once.

There's a very distinct difference. No method of juice delivery competes with dripping in terms of flavor saturation. Cartomizers are far more convenient, don't require that you pack a bottle of liquid when leaving the house or refuel while driving, etc., but there's a price to pay.

As for longevity, the question isn't with the tank itself, it's with the cartos. You might have to switch out the O-rings in a tank once in a blue moon, but they'll last as far as the eye can see otherwise.

But the cartos? It's all over the map, depending on who you ask. Some get a day or two. Others get a week or two. A few go to the trouble of cleaning rather than replacing them outright, and get a good deal more.

There are addictive substances in tobacco tar besides nicotine. Switching to nicotine vapor isn't painless. You are still going to feel some pain making the move to nicotine vaping but it's nothing compared to quitting smoking and nicotine cold turkey. If you switch to a strong nicotine juice (24-36 mg) you will be done with those those nicotine-related compound withdrawals within a couple of days.

Grit your teeth, switch to nicotine vaping exclusively and start cutting down on your nicotine mg gradually when you feel ready to do so. That could be a couple of weeks from now, or a couple of months or longer. The point is to make progress.

Get tough. You can do it.

Details of my struggle...

I'm a cart/tank guy myself. Filling a tank up with 3-6ml of juice and just vaping it for a day or two straight without touching it is bliss compared to dripping. I did drip when I first began, but quickly wanted to find something new. Attys to me are nice for flavor tasting and whatnot, or when there isn't enough juice worth filling a tank with, but not for all day vaping. Just sucks when a cart dies and you have to waste all that soaked up fluid, but you can always save the liquid in the tank. Only issues I've had with my tank are the o rings, and that was probably due to warped carts from manually punching them. I do find I go through juice faster with single coil carts vs dual coil, which is just weird. As for longevity, I change my carts out every week or two just because some flavors like to clog them up, or I want to switch flavors and the old flavor is 'sticking' inside it.

Well I truly appreciate the support and replies. Politicallyincorrect mentioned cleaning cartos? Now I would be rather happy with vaping for a day and cleaning it afterwards, any ideas on how exactly one goes about doing that? I've had a lot of success with my atomizers and dripping as far as lasting power. On another quick note sema4 and yzer I appreciate your input, advice, and support. I have truly enjoyed reading the success of many people switching from Analogs to Vape and I look forward to adding mine to the list. Thank you for your time in reading my original post and responding.

You've been vaping for 2 years and have not been able to drop the death sticks?

Upgrading your hardware is in order. I love my Provari V2. I wish I had just started with it.

But really, what you need to do is upgrade your juice.

Contact Ethan Huff at Vapelicious. Get some whole tobacco alkaloid juice.

I am addicted to the secondary alkaloids more than the nicotine. Many of us are. This works.

I do appreciate all the information, videos, and links. I am overjoyed to finally be a part of the forum. I have vaped for 2 years, but it has been more of a convience thing. I did quit straight for 6 months the first time I tried it and then 6 months last year. As I near 30, I'm ready to make it a full time thing. I have usually used vaping while gaming, while driving on long car rides, and even while in bed reading. Now though I'm ready to make the full switch and the RN4081 just is not going to cut it.

To Della, what is bottom feeders? to Politically Incorrect, incredible video thank you so much for the help. I use Menthol Holy Smoke at 26mg from Electronic Ash.

To Off Topic, Provari is just entirely to expensive. Not bragging, just putting it into prospective, I have $2500 on a new laptop coming in a few weeks, $250 for the Star Wars Keyboard from Razer this week, and I have about $250 to drop on a VV. So I've settled for a Vtube, with a tank, some pre punched cartos, thanks to Politically Incorrect, I'll be cleaning it out and hopefully getting some good results. I'll still probably drip from time to time cause I LOVE IT.

One more question, Can anyone suggest a stronger passthrough? I was going to send a friend of mine my old RN4081 stuff so he can get started vaping.

Unless you really like dripping...I suggest a REO %1000 percent. It's a bottom feeder mod- the ejuice is in a little bottle inside the mod and you just have to squeeze it to fill the carto/atty without the hassle of dripping.

A bottom feeder is a box mod that carries juice and a battery. You squeeze (squonk) the bottle of juice and it feeds juice directly to your atty, from the bottom. The flavor of dripping without the hassle.

Here's the insides of a REO Woodvil 18650, it helps to see it

No problem Darth! I hope you find a setup that suits your needs enough to kick the analogs for good. I'm still somewhat new to vaping (been vaping 4 months or so), but I've found cart/tanks to be the most painfree way to go. I've found some nasty carts and some good ones that taste (to me) just like an atty, so don't just pass up tanks and carts after trying one brand/ohm. I use Single coil 1.7 ohm triple holed flanged carts from Madvape (~$2/piece) on a silver bullet @ 3.7 volts. No leaking, great taste, perfect wicking, never EVER had a dry hit. Only thing that is needed is topping off a tank (which is just sliding the tank up ~1cm and shooting your fluid into it), how often you do this is just a function of how much you vape and the size of your tank. For me a 3.5ml tank lasted all day 'till bedtime, usually longer. I don't clean mine out due to the hassle and time needed to do that, and at ~$2 a pop, why bother in my opinion if you're only using up 1 every couple weeks. Other than that, switching fluids is just a matter of rinsing the tank out and popping a new cart in, take a few unpowered pulls to get the juice flowing into the cart and you're off. They can handle all the powervaping I've thrown at them. For $12 I think tanks are a worthwhile investment for the chance at saving yourself from analogs (i personally hated every cart that came with them however). Good luck and happy vaping!

Based on what you wrote (talking to the original poster here), I'd recommend a VMod XL ($80 bottom feeder mod) from Vapage and some Aero 510 1.5 ohm atomizers ($12 or so) from Avid Vaper. With that setup, all you'll probably need to do is change batteries every day or two. I don't vape super dark juices, so my atty's stay pretty clean and I can go 2+ weeks between cleanings on my Aero 510 atomizers.

A tank w/cartomizers is GREAT for some juices, but a bottom feeder (or direct dripping) with an atomizer ALWAYS gives me great flavor.

Later on, look into the HH.357 series from Avid Vaper. They have a bit of a reservoir (not as much as a tank, but a good 10 drops or so, IIRC) but the vapor production, flavor and throat hit are amazing !

I have an RN4081. It's threads match with NOTHING. Should have got a 510 system but did not know as I am new to vaping. Bought a tank system recently. It's a strong hit as liquid does not pass through filler, the atomizer heats the liquid and you get the full effect. I tried going up to 18mg. from my usual 16mg. Got a big headache. Suggest you drop down a little for a tank. Delivery of nicotine is pretty direct. I still use my 4081 for everyday out there, but it fits with nothing else but the cartomizers made for it. Hope that helps.
