Hi guys. So I wasn't sure which section to post this in but I was just wondering if I could get some help. So I'm looking into getting a cheap ($$ not quality) mech mod but I don't know enough about which are good and which ones aren't because there are so many different makes and models out there. I'm currently looking at a Caravela, an AR Clone mod, and a Tugboat. I'm just looking at these because they are all relatively inexpensive but like I said, I don't know enough about these mod or their makers to just drop some money on them.
Also, what does it mean when they say clone?

Please familiarize yourself with mechanicals and batteries before jumping on that train , i would read "Batitudes " blog on buying your first mechanical.
Can you link the blog for me?
I'm trying to do as much research as I can, as I always do before buying things, but I can't really find that many good quality, well written reviews and research when it comes to MODs and attys.

Hmm... is the Tugboat a hybrid?

Don't know about AR, but I have a Caravela and a Nemesis clone. Both are very good.

Then, there's the KTS. Less said about that, the better.

Oh,.. and a Sigelei. (almost forgot... very, very good *indeed* but the bottom button is hard work)
I've never heard of KTS. I have a few friends in my hometown area who all swear by Sigelei's, but those are current a bit outside of my price range. And yeah the tugboats a hybrid. Does that make a difference in anything because I've seen a few mods that say they have hybrid connections but I don't really know what that means either. I'm thinking I should probably just stick with regulated box mods for a bit longer

Aspire - Aspire CF SUBΩ Battery

If you want to see what mechs are like, but are concerned about safety, try out one of these for awhile. It's what I did. It essentially function just like a mech, but with built-in safety features. .3 ohms is as low as you can go (and if you're new to mechs, I wouldn't go much lower than that anyways.)

Good luck.

Just looked this up and it actually looks pretty nice and is in my price range. The only thing I'm not sure about with it is, does it have an internal battery or does it use an actual 18650? Either way is fine because I have an extra 18650 that I almost never use because the KBox nano my brother got me actually came with 2 batteries..just gotta wait for it to get here. Though I'm still semi-new to Vaping im already looking to get bigger clouds

As I remember it @Rando Fawkes Aspire made a few batteries along these lines (18650 sized tubes) and the 'daddy' of them (CF sub) had a built-in battery. The "CF Mod" needed a battery. The exact specs are tricky to find sometimes. I remember Aspire doing a really bad job of the specs.

Aspire CF Sub-Ohm Mod?

They have two, one internal lipo battery and one that's just a "shell" that you can put an 18650 in.

Bigger clouds nowadays are easier to get with a regulated high wattage mod. It also has a lot more to do with your coils than the mod itself. I really don't care about clouds, so...lol

Hi and welcome. +1 on learning what you're doing with a mech mod before you try it. On a mech, the only safety is between your ears. Here's a link to @Baditude 's blog. Also check @Mooch 's battery safety selection chart. The problem with clones is the quality is uneven. I have a clone Nemesis I bought from Fasttech for 10 bucks that's one of the best mods I have. I have a Maraxus clone that's not even suitable for a boat anchor. There are other options: you can buy a Wotofo Phantom or a Smok Magneto authentic for not much more than you'll pay for a good quality clone. I have and use both; they work just fine. What a "clone" is is somebody stealing somebody else's intellectual property. A clone is just that: a copy-- unauthorized-- of a mod that's had some success in the market.

A clone is a lower priced knock off of work that somebody previously has manufactured. They may be good, they may not be good. If it is cheaper, they may use cheaper materials that put you in danger.

If you're going to start with a mech mod, you need to do a lot of reading about them before using, assuming you mean UNREGULATED mech mod. You need to invest in tools that can tell you what your ohms are on your top most device before you place it on an unregulated mech mod. A decent device, which I'm thinking abt buying is the Coilmaster 521 Tab.

I've been reading as much research as I can find. I've read a lot of @Baditude blogs as they are all pretty helpful. I've been reading up on Ohms law as well as some of the basic dangers of using mech mods without knowledge of them. I am trying to learn as much as I possibly can, although there will probably always be more to learn, before I actually buy one. Not tryna have, basically, a pipe bomb go off in my face because I didn't do something properly. There is so much bad press out there about Vaping, but most of it fails to mention the fact that IMO, it's almost always user error and not necessarily the battery/MOD
