After spending a lot of time visiting many sites and watching videos I still can't decide on which mech mod to choose as my first.

I'm pretty much looking for a soild mod that has the best bang for the buck. I don't care so much about how it looks. I care more about performance, simplicity and durability. When I first stared looking for mech mods I was determined to settle with the Hades mod clone as my first mechanical mod, but to be honest it's a bit big for me to carry around in public. Plus I would have to buy 26650 batteries. I'd rather have something I can use with the 18650s I already own. My 2nd choice is the Maraxus mod clone. I'm sure there are many other kick .... mods out there that I have overlooked in my many hours of searching.

If anyone has any better suggestions please let me know. Keep in mind, I will most likely be buying a clone.

You do not necessarily have to buy a clone, especially when you can get an authentic at about the same price point, if not a few bucks cheaper. The UDT V14, solid mod, brushed brass finish, silver plated contacts, and has very little voltage drop. Can be ran in 18350 and 18650 mode. There are places that have them for as much as $75, but this is not a $75 mod by any means. Just do not do what I did with mine and run your atomizer at .01 area, that will melt the delrin pin in the fire button. I know where you can pick this up for $45 plus shipping. Shipping is on the high side at $6, but is insured and is 2 day priority with the USPS. Prompt shipping, I got my invoice moments after placing the order. VAPE CLOUD USA

Take a look at a K-100, very low resistance contacts, telescopic for any battery size, and built very solid, kickable. I picked one up recently at a B&M for $25, it was my second....:)

This ^^^ is what I was thinking would best suit your needs, but Stosh beat me to it :). I've had one for over a year and a half and it was my main vape for about nine months.

You can get a Hcigar Nemesis clone for $30 - $40. I love my Atomo clone and it's been my daily mod choice. But why stop with one mod?

Not planning to stop with just one mod. :D I'm currently using an itaste svd and I just wanted something as my first mech mod that would totally destroy it in every way imaginable. I just want a hard hitting mod that's reasonably priced and I won't throw a tantrum every time it gets dropped or scratched.

Im rock'in a Caravela Clone on top of my SVD. I dig the Vela but I do wish I had purchased a mod with a magnetic switch. For that reason I really like the Atomo V2 and the Stingray (have one of those on the way). **FYI the SVD has a 5 amp limit so you can run a 1.2 ohm coil at 6 volts and get 30 watts right at 5 amp draw. AWESOMENESS!!:vapor:

My first mech mod I got a few weeks ago was a kts. I threw a nimbus clone on it as the original tank sucked. It's working meh but don't like the side fire button. I have a sting ray clone coming tomorrow in the mail. I was like you and had 5 tabs open on my browser with reviews and sites with mods etc. the stingray should suffice for a while but I'm going to put away a few dollars here n there weekly and get an authentic mod when I have saved enough pennies

If it will be your first and not last mechanical I would suggest any of the popular telescopic models especially if you have a mix of batteries. They make good battery contact very simple and overall work quite well. They have their own problems but you won't notice them for awhile and by then you will have a very good idea what you like.
