So Sick of Sweet

I quit cigs in February. I don't know if maybe I'm just missing the analog experience a bit, but lately I'm getting tired of almost every single ejuice I'm using being sweet to varying degrees. There's something about the rough, "smoky" taste of a cigarette that just isn't duplicated by ejuice, I get that. But must every ejuice be some kind of sweet dessert, fruit or beverage type flavor? Even the majority of the tobacco flavors have rum, honey or vanilla overtones....HELP!

I know where you're coming from. I sometimes want a break from all the sweet stuff too. I've only had one liquid that provided that rough, "smoky" taste that you describe. It was a tobacco blend from Apollo E-cigs. I think they call it straight tobacco or pure tobacco or something like that. Sorry but I don't remember the exact name. There wasn't anything sweet about it. I don't use it anymore but it used to really hit the spot when I wanted something stout and robust. I remember enjoying it immensely when taking a break after mowing the lawn.

That's the only liquid I know of that you might like based on your post. I'm sure there are many others but I'm at a loss to recommend any.

I'll keep an eye on this thread though. It might help me find something too.

I know the boat you're in and have been hunting non-sweet vapes since I started this whole thing. Even am sorta running a thread of my explorations.

There are two right off the bat I'd say are definitely NOT sweet. Ahlusion's Devil Dog! and Frontier Vapor's Hops. Devil Dog! has a ton of Latakia in it, so it's very smoky and it also has a good amount of Perique in it, so there's a lot of pepper as well. Hops are, well, hops. And the extract vapes very nicely, although I don't think I'd vape it right in front of a cop. It does smell and taste a lot like ... . Not that I'd know from first hand experience, of course. ;)

On the slightly sweet front, you have all the various absinthe and clove variants. Both of Ahlusion's 'fairies' aren't very sweet, although they're a touch light. Aroma's Djarum clone isn't bad either and while cloves tend to feel sweet, they don't have the candy taste of so many clove vapes in this.

A lot of mint/cinnamon aren't sweet either. One of my regular go-to vapes is EC Blend's Fire and Ice. It's not fancy, but it's not sweet and it sure does feel like vaping something other than air. I'm going to put AiV's Cheshire Catnip in here as well. It has a lot of more earthy tones than most mints, being based on catmint rather than spearmint or peppermint.

I want to try both Pluid and Resurrection, but they're going to have to wait until I get paid next at the end of August.

I really don't like sweet flavors. Some tea flavors (Black Tea, plain Green Tea and Earl Grey Tea) have worked. I haven't found a black coffee flavor that I like yet, but I'm a coffee snob. Some citrus flavors, and some pineapple flavors aren't too bad. Plain menthol is also okay.

I'm actually just about to do my first try at DIY to try to get some more non-sweet flavors.

Also remember that VG is sweet itself, so going high PG can help.

Since I'm here... I'm not into sweet either. I find that a lot of juices are sickeningly sweet and a lot taste artificial. I just can't get into desserts but for one exception (but it IS sweet).

My current ADV is on the sweet side, though, but it's not too much and it's a coffee/tobacco/vanilla hybrid, not a straight dessert.

Anyway, I totally understand your point - I too sometimes feel the need for something more straightforward, and most of all, not sweet. In which case I usually turn towards simpler tobaccos, mostly the first juices I bought and never finished as my vaping horizon expanded (I have a LOT of samples all over the place).

Your mileage will vary but...

- Check out Alhusion. Their tobaccos are quite famous, and for some you have the option to choose Unsweetened. They also have "tobacco only" juices, and the two coffees I tried (Mocha and Kona Kick) were pretty good (as far as coffee juices go) and totally unsweetened. They also have a coffee/tobacco blend (JG Blend) that I've yet to try (got a small bottle). Smooth Criminal is their most famous tobacco blend.

- If you like complex and original flavors, try out Birdsnest Elixirs. I just discovered them and was enchanted by Fanfare and Maestro. Fanfare is more sweet than Maestro, but nothing overwhelming.

- When I want something refreshing and not sweet (kind of like palate reset !), I like Lotus from Vape Goddess (green tea and honeysuckle, very fresh, relaxing, a clear, clean and not sweet) or Bettie White from Uncle Junk's (pomegranate, tart goodness).

I really enjoy Bionic's "Countryside" (a lovely cigar flavor like vaping a fine humidor), and Nicoticket's h1n1 (a great complex tobacco without overwhelming sweetness) But for full on tobacco in your face killer deedness, give the Grumpy's Hooch a try over at sandsmods.com. I just opened my first bottle of Hooch (after a few weeks steep) and simply can't put it down.

I'm with Burnie - if what you're looking for is something that hits those raw notes of an analog, you should really try some naturally extracted tobacco (NET) liquids. They will gunk up your cartos/tanks/atties, so I switched over to rebuildable drippers pretty quick. The most "cig-like" that I've tried is Louisville, one of Want2Vape's Signature Tobacco liquids. None of the liquids in the Signature line are very sweet at all. I'd recommend Paris, but it's really the gunker of all gunkers. Devil Dog from Ahlusion is good as well, but not quite in the same field as the W2V liquids - at least to my tastebuds. The Fire Cured NET from GoodeJuice is quite good as well, and since it's extracted from a fire-cured tobacco it has a nice smokey quality that kind of allows me to imagine that I'm smoking. QuickNicJuice also makes some pretty good NETs, but they require a bit more of a steep, in my experience.

Totally agree - most are WAY too sweet for me, even the alleged tobaccos as you found out.

My ADV has turned out to be Boba's Bounty mixed with a little Gambit to loosen it up and bring up the flavor profile to a warm complex tobacco like you would find in a fine flu cured Danish.

I do like some evening 'sweet' vapes from POET called Nonne Torta al Limone, and Dolce Nero Te.
Neither is cloyingly sweet, just a hint, and make a nice change once in a while.

WOW - lots of awesome suggestions...much appreciated, and now to put together a shopping list :)
You might want to check out fadoravapor.com .

The juice "chef" at Fadora is amazing and customized a very specific baco flavor for me that I got for a friend of mine. It would be worth emailing him and letting him know exactly what you're wanting and not wanting and seeing what he suggests. He makes exquisite juice because he's so good with natural flavors and doesn't just candy everything and hope for the best like some juices I've tried.
