Asterisk means you got a strike against you. Not enough to get banned, but point(s) that may or may not go away. Collect enough..... Say bye-bye.

ohhh...sorry, nothing at all to do with that.

(wanted to nip that one in the bud)

Was a good tutorial !

Well :censored:

I assumed (yeah I know about assuming :glare:) that's what it was, for the simple fact that some people that sport those asterisks wear them for a while and the next thing I know......poof! Moved On. Usually worn by members that don't learn to play nice with others.

You could not be further away from the truth.. :D

I would never have guessed that after 3.5 years on here, the asterisk is still one of the most debated and mysterious "status symbols" on here.. LOVE IT!!

And NO!, I'm not telling.. even if there's a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader costume in play. :p

I must say, being a relative newbie, as hard as I try to look for something in it's own special place this site is just too huge & overwhelming.
Thanks for the post. Every little bit helps towards proper navigation. Lol.
I'm still lost even after 6mos. of this amazing forum.

BTW, I've never even noticed the asterisk anywhere

I never knew about this enigmatic asterisk until this thread. Now I want to go find a poster with this designation and do a deep-drill analysis of their post history :p

I might as well take that costume out of the shopping cart then.... Edd's not going to be happy

Ok Robino- after a cursory exploration of this cryptic asterisk I've been able to identify some commonalities amongst asterisk'd members:

- The poster is male. However, in the cases where the poster is not male, she is female.

- The member is between the ages of 18 and 70, except for age 51. Apparently reaching 51 disqualifies you for an asterisk, but things come back around once you hit 52.

- This one took some advanced algorithms but my statistical analysis points to the member using electronic nicotine delivery devices.

- The member has some opinions about vaping.

- Snarkiness is apparently not a requisite for the asterisk and may actually be a disqualifier.

- Annoying retired1 is most definitely not something that earns you an asterisk. :2cool:

That's all I've got so far, will further research.

Great tutorial...I have this Power Point presentation to give at work and I was wondering...

Dang...now I want an asterisk!

On the flight sim forum I hang out in particularly colorful characters would often get their own "custom" avatars handed out by one of the mods. Most of them were quite humorous...often tongue-in-cheek...and nobody would admit to where or why they would appear. They were extremely coveted as badges of honor and once word got out which mod was responsible he was so besieged by requests from forum members (and the subsequent uproar and claims of favoritism) the practice was banned forthwith.

So now that I think about it...I don't wanna know.

I'm not saying this is the reason, nor am I saying it isn't. But have you stopped to think that we may do something like that just to drive people crazy trying to figure out what it is?

The thought has crossed my mind, more than once. Especially after Dusty chimed in. He is notorious for trying to drive me crazy :glare:

Please keep me posted when you find further qualifications of the asterisk phenomenon. Much appreciated ;)
