...mechanical mod? I mean they use batteries right? So can someone please tell me how exactly they work. I mean if it uses batteries what is mechanical about it?

No electronics or wiring, the circuit and switch are mechanical contacts.

Ahh ok. I've read some reviews but could find nothing else. Some of the reviews say these mechanical mods will outlast others.

Well, there's not much to go wrong or wear out. Maybe a few extra springs but that's about all.
