Im sure that any of you with a tfv4 have noticed that odd taste all the coils have when they are new. Its like a rubber/chemical taste you get until you vape a tank or 2 through it.
Now i searched every where and some people were saying its from the foam inserts in the kit packaging when you first get your tank, because the coils arent wrapped in anything. That is NOT true. No matter where i get a coil from(mostly quads) it has this taste. AND they come in a sealed package(like most). Im not worried about it but i just put a new coil in and i was gonna see if anyone has opinions. Dont say "if your worried dont use it". See that? im not worried. Curious. I have both colors of this tank and i plan on using it for a very long time.
Let me know what you think.

I loved my TFV4, but on my second batches of coil heads every damn one if them had that rubbery taste. To me they are pretty much unvapeable. I have forced a few tanks through it with them, but for me the taste never goes away. My TFV4 is shelved now and Im rocking the crap outta my Crown and Indulgence MT. Eventually I want to revisit the TFV4 and try it with the clapton coils, but If they have the rubber taste as well this tank is gonna be dead to me.

Hmmmm....Did not have that or not so far anyway. I start my coils off low and sort of break them in. After all, the Legs are Pressure fit:
Metal contact on one side
Rubber Contact on the other
Takes time to get the Legs to Set for best current flow, and least resistance differential.

When breaking in older Kanger coils - think Protank, 1.8ohm - I have seen .2-.3ohm shifts, almost always reading Higher at first.

Lots of difference in 80w and 140w on a new coil
Just saying :)

I had that same taste when I first used my quad coil all I did was make sure I put a little bit of juice on the coil itself and when I put it in the tank full of juice I let it sit for a second then hit it like 5 times without actually hitting it to work juice through better and when I did actually hit it i started at 56watts and over a 10 minute span worked it up to 100watts since thats where I prefer it at and it was fine I cant guarantee it'll work but it doesn't hurt to try!

Hmm, lets see, the same old story with breaking in coils. Had this with 306 atty cartidges, blue foam, tea bag liners, cartomizers, 510 atomizers, ceramic/SS mesh, ekowool, silica, cheese cloth in Genesis Atty's, clearomizers, RDA/RTA/RBA's from silica to ekowool to hemp to bamboo to cotton balls to rayon to KGD japanese cotton, to cotton bacon to any other wicking I've ever experimented with. It is the nature of the wicking breaking in, gaskets/insulators breaking, until there is a true wickless system you are going to get this. Only way to work around it, get a new set of coil heads, get some everclear in a jar you can seal, drop them in there, let them soak, then thoroughly rinse them out and let air dry, the everclear distilled water rinse should dissolve and rinse away any machining residues. Also as stated above, work that coil up toward top end at lower settings going up in stages of a period of time.

I've got a very sensitive pallete, and I've adjusted to forget thinking about the awful tastes on a fresh coil or fresh re-wick, even now getting used to the off back tone taste of Ni200 and Titanium wire coils like I had to do with Kanthal and Nichrome wire couple years ago. Quit focusing on the little things, do I detect funky taste on the TFV4 coils that came with the tank, yes I do, but nor do you hear me singing cry me a blooming river over minor things either...

wow. really? This isnt my first rodeo. I prime, and break in slow. always have. had no issues with my first package of coils for this tank. With my last entire package of coils there is simply something wrong. it is like everyone has a hot log in the rubber insulator. Ive tried to power through it, but it just gets worse and worse as I go. Im gonna try a pack of clapton heads for it, and if that dosent work out Im done with it.

I've experienced this on nearly every coil ever created at some point of its life or other except the new Kanger Clapton Coils and Aspire does it right too.

Personally, I think it's low quality gaskets around the legs. That marshmellow looking white stuff is god awful if it burns. Kanger recently have started putting in gaskets that are colored and look much more firm than fluffy, maybe it's some type of PEEK?

The Kanger Claptons are just wonderful for flavor and vapor. I notice that Smok simply have the old fashioned marshmellow looking gaskets. So do the original Kanger OCC's and the taste is awful.

Best I can say is always start at low power an work up and prime the coil. Hardly much else to do, but hopefully it's a fluke batch :/.
