......Although I was told one set was "joyetech" and not "Joye", and the impression I got was that joyetech is a less reliable knock-off. Don't know if I believe that or not, and I'm not damning the whole 510 framework based on my experience. I didn't see that there was a better line available, a better version of the 510, and once I found that I moved to it.

Joye and joyetech is supposed to be the same thing. The Development Path of Joyetech

I had a joye 510, and now have an joye ego, and both have been excellent.

Now that was my impression as well, and I never thought I got shoddy equipment (that opinion came from a vendor). I realize the Joye eGo I just purchased works on the same principle as the Joyetech 510 that got me frustrated just like the OP. Reality is I changed my behavior - how I use these devices to vape (dripping and arguably better cartomizers). Going to the eGo gave me longer battery life, and access to different options to attach to that battery. Not a bad upgrade considering how little I have to fuss with these things. The cartridges work just as badly on the eGo as they did on the 510 set, I'm not using them anymore.

Wrestling with cartridges, tanks, and atomizers seems to be a widespread 510 issue, judging by the landslide of related topics on ECF (matched only by tons of how-to articles on how to make these things work better). Did I over-complicate things by using tips from the ECF forum in an attempt to get better production out of cartridges, restore life to atomizers (not knowing if I'd reached the real end of their life expectancy), or avoid the nasty burning taste you can get when things go dry?

I carry three 510's with extended life batteries and prefilled JOYE disposable cartos in my pants pocket. This allows me to switch among three different flavors (more than adequate for experienced vaping). As there are three batteries in use, longer lasting batteries are not required. Cartos are white so they are transclucent and easy to fill. No dripper bottle. No carrying case. No leaks.

When you talk 510, be sure you are comparing apples to apples. If you want to know how I fill them, just ask.

Just find what's working for you and use that.
I spend maybe 50-60/mo on juice and 10 on my cartos (possibly less). I spent that in a week on cigs.

I see people jump on every single thing that comes out dropping $200 some dollars on new quipment, buying every new carto version in large quantities. Problem is many things are over hyped, and few deliver much better than what you have and are accustomed to already.

I just wait till my cartos are running low and then reorder the ones I like and maybe get a pack of something new that came out and looks promising. I also learned to avoid all juices that foul things up quickly no matter how great they might taste. It cuts maintenance down from a daily to a weekly occurrence.

That's my plan as well. Still in the trial phases here :)

I've ordered juices from about six vendors so far, and have found that many of the heavy VG ones are more notorious for clogging things up. Still haven't quite found my favorite line/flavor yet.

Thanks for that. I find that my 510 cartos, whichever make, gum up really quickly with LF Cigar VG, which is a shame, because it's my favourite. Tried the PG and it just didn't do it for me. Battery life is fine with my Riva kit, but with Cartos, I find the LR Boge the best, and especially like the Smoketech dual coils, the only trouble is I often get at least one Smoketech out of the five to malfunction, and when I was using other juice, I could get them to last maybe a week before getting too gummed up, the VG cigar has them lasting two days at most.
I recently got some Kanger horizontal element cartos which were just terrible. They'd last about five blasts and then taste burnt. Total waste of money. Might have been a bad batch, but makes me wonder why LF actually sells them.
Though I spend about £20 a week on cartos and juice, compared with £30 a week for analogues, it still annoys me that so much of it is wasted on cartos (usually) which simply don't work. I can't think of any other product where people put up with such a high failure rate (510 kit, anyway).
That's why I wonder about disposables.

I Have been doing the same thing for about 4 months. I finally came down to one option on cartos. They work great at both voltages I use, 4.8 and 3.7 and 100% VG. The fluxomizer deluxe from Gotvapes at 2.8 ohms. I am on my 5th week with these and I am a heavy vaper. Setup is easy, just remove all the seals and put the center thin seal back in flat side down. To clean the whole thing comes apart and washes. Just search youtube for a video. I clean once a week. The taste is great and cost spread over 5 weeks so far is less than I spent on anything else. They look like they will last much longer yet. For power I finally decided on a 14650 e power at 3.7V and because I like electronics I made a puck SD mod for 4.8V and cheap long lasting rechargable NIMH AAA batteries that you can get from any grocery or chemist. If you have any soldering skill you can make one for about $12. Just search the Mod forum for Puck.

Good Luck and feel free to pm me if you need more info.

Thanks for the advice and help. Just to keep you up to speed, just been away for the weekend and took 2 501 batteries and a few smoke tech dual coil cartos, and after two days, both batteries died. They both light blue when the button's pressed, and show as fully charged, but the cartos don't fire.
I'm really frustrated by this and am now looking for a new system. That's four batteries I've had fail on me in six months. I'm down to a cheap e-cig I got for backup which is pretty useless. I've tried cleaning the connections, and know it's not the cartos or the charger, as I also have a mini 501 from a tank system which charges and fires the cartos (though the battery has never had good life, and lasts about fifteen minutes)
I'm not sure what I'm going to move onto, but it won't be Riva 501.
