I've never seen so many police choppers anywhere else I've lived than in Vegas. Sometimes I'd go for a walk at night, and they'd spot me with their spotlight for a few seconds before moving off.

I had a police helicopter buzzing my neighborhood one day a few years ago. I was outside being polite, and gave a wave. He was very low. He waved back, kind of frantically. All of a sudden some crack head that had broken in to a house a few doors down jumped my fence! 8-o My dogs where outside with me and they would have killed him had I let them.
But I rounded up the dogs and ran inside and looked out my front window, slowly opened my front door and told the police that he was in my back yard. They had a dog and I got to see that ....er taken down hard by the k-9 unit. It was scary, but awesome.
Apparently, this guy broke into a neighbors house to steal stuff for his crack habbit, after only being out of jail for a few hours. The owner of the home got home while the robber was still in his house. So he called the cops from outside and while the neighbor was waiting for police, the crackhead changed into my neighbors clothes and started running. Jumping fences and finally over my fence and through my gate to meet some canine teeth.
Moral of the story: when you see a police helicopter at low altittude near your house, get inside. You never know what they're there for.
