Hello! So I got my order in the mail on the 23rd and I've been enjoying the whole vaping experience ever since. Definitely like it a lot more than cigs. What a bonus. This is effortless!

I'm also seeing that it's quickly turning into a hobby. It's fun! Anyway, in the course of the last few days a few questions have arisen.

1. How hot do your cartomizers get before you rotate to a different one (i.e., not before they are spent, but before you switch to a different cart lest you speed the spent...)

2. How do you know for sure when the cart is spent? I have had 5 carts in the rotation for the last 3 days and it doesn't seem I've spent one yet. I've puffed pretty hard on the white choc. strawberry, so I have 2 out, but other than that it seems after a rest, one that seemed spent (e.g., slight burnt marhsmallow flavor, as I've read elsewhere) comes right back if I give it another shot.

3. Re: XL auto battery: It's kicking on and staying on for a few secs after I finish a draw. It's like there a ghost puffing at it. Then of course the cart gets hot, so I'm unscrewing it to preserve the cart. Any way to fix the batt that you know of? I'm not contacting v4l about it - it was a super-nice freebie that I was delighted to receive and I have a couple of manual batts in my cart as we speak. In no way complaining, just wondering if I can fix it. OR if I should not have sat it on my computer (i.e. metal case) to charge. Could this have caused the phantom puffing?

4. Making your own juice: I'm ordering some veg. glycerin and flavorings to make some juice. Anyone have any idea how to simulate the nuport or the wh. choc strawberry? I checked recipes on the DIY. No luck. I'm really enjoying vaping and I'm getting too stinking much nicotine. I'm going to have to make some 0mg juice.

Finally, I shared my vk with everyone on christmas eve and there was much love all around. They all asked for the website and say they want one. :) Anyway, I almost started to feel a little bit like the obsessive geek having read all about them and going on and on and into detail.

well... you *can* order 0 mg juice. i don't know about truly replicating the white choc strawberry, but to start i would use a strawberry flav and a 'cream' flavoring. am fairly sure lorann's makes a 'cream'. (if not a white choc to begin with.) the nuport, starting w/out a tobacco flavoring might make it harder, but i've been enjoying blend of coffee and menthol that (to me) reminds me of smoking a menthol quite a bit, and isn't *way* off the nuport flav.

the rest i won't weigh in on cause i'm just as new and i know these guys will have better (more correct, lol) words.

Hey Belletrist, thanks for the reply! I am ordering some of the nuport juice. I only see it in 5ml. Sadly, no white choc. strawberry juice, though. Since I'm all into playing around with it, I guess nuport will be my first quest. It seems like a complicated flavor. Of course emulation will be a lot harder than just trying to come up with juice that is tastily vapable, I'm thinking.

yes... but a fun experiment i'm sure. ;) not too taxing to test those tastily vapable flaves. ;) generally they are filling in with more flavors available in liquids, so it'll prob show up eventually. you can wash carts out to refill with other flavs, too, when you're done with them-- so don't hesitate to order the carts if that's why you're not.

Welcome and congrats! You want to stop using the carto before it gets too dry and gets really burnt, otherwise it will not be a good candidate for refilling. It takes a bit to recognize when this is going to happen, particularly when you're first starting and your tastebuds aren't back in shape yet. If you notice you're getting good vapor but not much taste, you're getting close. If you notice that the taste is slightly burnt or the vapor drops way off, it's definitely done. Better to stop early and refill when in doubt.

I'm also seeing that it's quickly turning into a hobby. It's fun! Anyway, in the course of the last few days a few questions have arisen.

1. How hot do your cartomizers get before you rotate to a different one (i.e., not before they are spent, but before you switch to a different cart lest you speed the spent...) I will vape mine until they are warm, but stop before I would call them hot, I generally have two cartos around if I'm vaping heavy, one on my Passthrough and one on a battery. Not needed if I'm not power vaping.

Great advise already given there. I would recommend you top off early until you are a bit more used to the cartomizers.

3. Re: XL auto battery: It's kicking on and staying on for a few secs after I finish a draw. It's like there a ghost puffing at it. Then of course the cart gets hot, so I'm unscrewing it to preserve the cart. Any way to fix the batt that you know of? Are they coming BACK on or just staying on for a couple of seconds after you vape? My auto will stay on for a couple of seconds after a draw, it really isn't enough to hurt anything. I don't think sitting it on a metal case would bother it. Auto batteries can be activated by magnets though.

I would think it would be best to start with something a bit simpler with DIY Juice. The most I do is add some VG to the juices I buy from V4L to give them a bit more vapor and I like the smoothness.

Finally, I shared my vk with everyone on christmas eve and there was much love all around. They all asked for the website and say they want one. :) Anyway, I almost started to feel a little bit like the obsessive geek having read all about them and going on and on and into detail.

Welcome to the obsessive family, you'll fit right in here!!

Taryn,

Your A: Are they coming BACK on or just staying on for a couple of seconds after you vape? My auto will stay on for a couple of seconds after a draw, it really isn't enough to hurt anything. To answer the question, it's staying on for a couple of secs. Come to think of it, though, I just read the dropping batts thread, and I did drop it on xmas eve, so that may have be why its staying on a few secs? Yesterday it was nonresponsive for a few minutes and then just came back on.

Honestly a couple of extra seconds of "on" time shouldn't overheat the carto to where it's a worry, the carto will get warm to the lips when vaped I just alternate cartos when chain vaping so they don't get hot. Perhaps dropping it did cause the problem, hard to say from here. Play with it until you decide is the best I can suggest. Perhaps some other forum members will chime in!

So Cali
Ive only been vaping for a few days and am very new, but I thought I would chime in here regarding the "phantom vaping".

My regular autos do this also. But I have not dropped mine nor have they experienced any trauma. I thought it was odd at first, but I think it might just be the way these batteries work. My first thought was some sort of safety mechanism, maybe it takes a second to turn itself off instead of just cutting off power completely as soon as you stop puffing on it?

I'm not 100% sure, as I am very new to this thing as well, I just wanted to let you know that mine do the same thing and seem to be working fine without any ill effects.
