Some pointers on replacinga firing pin in the Reo

Rob will be making a new video on this. So here area few photos and points I've learned while replacing the stock pin with a brass one.

First and most important. When putting it back together only finger tight with the screw for the black Delrin cover. Do not do as most and tighten it just a bit more after it stops, when it stops that's good enough.

You will notice a metal piece in the end of the tube, I call this the nipple. But it really is also a nut that screws on to the base of the center pin and locks the firing pin in place. This creates a good electrical contact between the two.

To replace the firing pin and button:

· remove the screw in the black delrin cover

· remove the bottle and tube

· remove the delrin cover

· Use a flat blade screw driver in the slot on the top of the center pin, inside the drip well.

· Grab the nipple that the tube slides over with a pair of pliers and turn counter clock wise with the pliers.

o I've found turning the nipple to loosen it is easier than trying to turn the post.



· Once loose you can turn the center post with the driver to fully remove the nipple and firing pin.

· With the firing pin out the button should drop. If you have a button topper you'll need to pull it off. twist the button to unlocked position.

· Put the new button in lining up the lock pin with the groove in the Reo so it goes all the way up.

· Hold the new firing pin in place and spin the center post with the driver to thread it through the center pin.

· Screw the nipple back on, using a hose to hold it, like the spare in the kit makes this easier.

· I then pull the tube and hold the center pin in place with the driver and snug up the nipple a bit tighter with the pliers.

· I put a drop of super glue on the center pin and slide the tube on. Take care to keep the glue on the outside and not near the hole.

· Slide the tube through the delrin

· Hold the delrin in place and install the screw FINGER TIGHT.

Nice work my friend . CAN YOU SAY FINGER TIGHT . People are always stripping the threads in the mod . Of course most of them say I didn't over tighten the screw . I always say to myself yeah you did

I never attempted this cleaning. I was waiting for the new kits, but it helped alot as far as added performance, nice step by step guide, or I wouldn't have tried it. Glad I always made sure it was finger ****ing tight since it such a factor in my reo's health. +1

Question:
That little white spacer/disk/flat oring that goes under the screw head. Is there a suitable sub for that piece? I installed a kit in some used mods and kept that old parts. The only thing I need to make another kit is that white disk.

I'm not sure of it's purpose but would guess it's there to protect the gasket / insulator if the pin spins around. Rob will have to tell us what issue might ensue if we don't use it.

The key word above is "some".

Its probably the last line of defence against people who use great force to screw their atty in trying to get the air hole in the exact sweet spot plus or minus a few degrees, i.e. stops the center pin shorting out in the base of the 510 connector after the insulator has been crushed.
