Ok, I just received my first e-cig in the mail today, a Joye 510. I've been very impressed with the vapor production and hit but since the first puff I've been getting this horrible, acrid, hot, metallic taste.

Because of my lack of savvy, I didn't order a bottle of e liquid but instead opted for the pre-filled menthol cartridges. The carts smell fine so I don't think they're to blame for the taste.

However, in my curiosity I removed just the cart and ran the cig with only the atomizer attached. It seemed to fill with a whitish substance that smelled exactly like the vapor was tasting. Is this normal? Is there any way to get this taste to go away?

Most likely it is the primer that comes on new atties. Some try to clean it off (soak in alcohol, etc), others just puff on it until the taste clears up (personally that is what I do). If it is really nasty, try not to inhale it. I have found that it usually clears up within 30-50 puffs and eventually you won't notice it anymore. If you DID have some liquid, I'd recommend to drip some on it.

But a word of caution though.... you don't want to burn the atty TOO much with no cart attached because that not only can contribute to the nasty burning/metallic taste, but can also cause premature atty death as well.

The taste will clear up eventually... that happens with all new atomizers and some are worse than others. To me it isn't a big deal.

4 second bursts aren't bad at all. I think the general rule is try not to exceed 5 seconds per burn in order to help prevent early failure from overheating. It's mostly the dry burning that will kill it, which is why they come primed in the first place.
