Something strange I noticed about "flavors".

I don't think they are really flavors, as opposed to scents. I did a little test with a few different ones and held my nose shut while inhaling and exhaling. I tasted absolutely nothing. I have heard that with food if you hold your nose shut that the taste is diminished as well, though I haven't tried that yet. I eat tasty stuff normally so I wouldn't want to, but the next time I get McDonalds I will be sure to give it a shot.

Has anyone else noticed this or tried ways to determine if you truly are tasting these flavors or if it's just based on scent?

I ask because if you have a seriously stuffed up nose, it seems that you wouldn't be able to get any flavor. Do some flavors, like maybe menthols, actually help clear out stuffy sinuses? It seemed like menthol analogs actually did tend to help clear sinuses like using menthol cough drops, so I wonder if some of these flavors could do the same thing.

I think you are right with the exception of some flavor/tongue residue which might taste sweet or sweet-sour like orange or cherry etc is. The tongue can only sense sweet, salty, bitter, sour and savory. Everything else is an aroma. When I was in elementary school they did a demonstration, we had to hold our noses and close our eyes and taste two things and say what we were tasting. Apple and sweet onion tasted the same. And once I was on medication that took my sense of smell. I bought raspberries because I love them, and they were tasteless.

When I vape I try to let a bit of vapor waft under my nose so I get the aroma. With cigarettes you don't have to purposely do that because cigarettes are always making smoke so you can't help getting some in your face.

Re sinuses, I had an improvement right away but my sinuses were usually more loosely clogged. Now I can smell the vapor if it is a vapor with a reasonable amount of aroma. but I do have to make the effort to let some be under my nose and breath it in through my nose. If I don't do that, then then the vapor all goes into my mouth, then my lungs, then gets blown away when I exhale, and i never get a chance to smell it.

I make sure to vape slowly because of this actually. When I take a puff I let some of the vapor leave my mouth, or sometimes let it flow out and inhale it through my nose. It seems to help.

I saw a vendor who has eucalyptus e-juice or flavorant, I think it was Ms. T's, I might go ahead and order some of that for the winter. Eucalyptus always clears me right up, when I have a bad cold I put eucalyptus scents in the hot tub and go soak in that for a while, works wonders and I can usually breathe well enough to sleep through the night without issue so I'm really curious to see if the same would be true with a eucalyptus vaping juice.
