Hello everyone!

I am so confused about the VTC line of batteries...I can't find anything consistent. People say they are discontinued and others say they are back, and then today on some reputable battery seller sites (orbtronic and RTD) there are VTC4 and VTC5 batteries in stock...anyone know anything reliable about these batteries? If they are back or discontinued for sure? If those sites in particular are selling authentics? I want to get some but feel a bit weary about it and probably won't until I feel more certain about them.

Thanx in advance for replies

They were popular, sony dont like it.

Supposedly Sony said they were discontinued-
The statement has never truly been confirmed by sony, the discontinuation rumor is all based on a single email supposedly from a sony customer service rep that was posted by a forum member.

Months Later in a long forgotten interview when asked, a Sony rep claims ( for public use) should have been included with the discontinued statement.

Sony in a round about way admits the batteries are not for public use or retailers to sell as singles but is still making them for industrial customers and power tool companies. They dont want vapors using them and they are cutting off overflow as best they can.

At the same time sony is moving all of its battery plants out of japan as the tsunami destroyed most of them.
Restarting a new factory takes time and this caused even further shortages ( also this helped strengthen the discontinued rumors even more)

Whats been happening is middle men and distributors between factory and customers have been over ordering when they can and putting them on the street

Latest batch is authentic and several well known vendors have them in limited supply.

When latest batch runs out no one knows when more are coming.
