I'm just about ready to give up. I have 1 bottle of VG based 26mg unflavored nicotine, 1 bottle of FA Spicy Cinnamon Candy, and 1 bottle of Capella's Orange Creamsicle.
What I've been trying to do is make (1 bottle each flavor):
3ml, 26mg
and
3ml, 13mg
I've tried the calculators, starting at 10% flavor. Nothing. No taste. 20%. Nothing. No taste. All the way up to 50% flavor and at this point I'm just barely tasting any flavor at all. :(
What the heck am I doing wrong???????? So far these experiments have cost me half a bottle of FA, and I'm almost ready to give up on the whole thing.
For ex. : (According to the calculator)
For 3ml of 26mg:
1.5 ml of 26mg VG
+ 30 drops (50%) of Spicy Cinnamon Candy (same with Orange Creamsicle mixture)

That is strange. The flavors I've tried from Capella all seemed much stronger than LorAnn's (for example).

In my mixes I have used up to 40% flavoring though as some flavors just aren't intense enough to satisfy until such high levels.

You may have been sent a bad batch of flavoring though. I'd try putting a drop directly on your tongue and maybe have someone else give it a try.

Are you using this calculator? If you have added 30 drops of flavoring, I don't know how it is still fitting into the bottle, first of all. My only thought now is that your taste buds are still recovering, or are having one of those infamous "off" days and you just can't taste it. Don't throw it out. Save it to try a few days from now when they may recover. Also I've read that if you drink some fruit juice and then vape you may taste the juice more. If you've eaten onions lately, apparently that is a flavor killer.

That is the calculator I'm using. And the bottle I'm using is bigger than 3ml (5ml I think). I actually started this last week, with the same results, used the mixture for a few days to give myself time to get used to it, and still could hardly taste any flavor. So, last night, knowing that 50% "should" be way too much, and that I must've done something wrong before, I tried again. Hence the frustration. I'm right back where I started from.
Could my taste buds be that damaged???????? I know it's not from onions because I don't eat them. Lol.

I also tried the smell it test and couldn't smell a thing - even at 50%.

could it be the amount of VG in your mixes? maybe that's what could be throwing off your flavoring ratios? I'm new to the DIY also but I've also found out that when I let a fresh mix sit a couple of hours the flavors tend to blend together more as opposed to the separated tastes of fresh batches. IMHO.

I'm currently trying out flavors w/ 0 nic 60/40 PG/VG-- don't wanna waste my nic on bunk batches that come up.

You can only do a combination of ml measurement and drops if your drops per ml in the spread sheet is accurate.

Did you test drip sometime up to 1ml and count how many drops it took?

If you put in 1.5ml of ejuice and you particular dripper takes 40 drops to make a ml, you are not putting in 50% flavor.

Omg! I think you might've just hit the nail on the head! (Now someone needs to hit me on the head. :)) After reading this, I did the test and you're right! I'd always just assumed that my syringe held 20 drops in 1ml, but now I've discovered that, using my VG nic juice, it holds closer to 40!
Ok...back to the drawing board for me, but this time with high hopes. I'll let you all know how it turns out this time.

Ok, I've finally got it figured out, thanks to you guys, and to Mergryphon for stating the obvious. My biggest mistake was assuming my syringe held 20 drops in 1ml. Anyway...now that I've tried how it should be, I've realized that part of the problem is the FA Spicy Cinnamon Candy - still hardly any flavor. So I gave up on that, tried FA Spearmint (forgot I had that) at 10% and it just about blew my socks off. Obviously next time I'll have to use less and consider the cinnamon just something I won't be buying again.
Thanks again for all the advise!

All droppers have a different number of drops per ml. The bottles from Capella are different from those from Perfumers Apprentice and so on. Everyone needs to test their bottles and their droppers and NOT assume that 20 drops per ml is the law. Mine range from 45 drops per ml to 18 drops per ml. Obviously those are VERY different numbers!

Another thing to remember is that VG tends to EAT flavors. You can make the same mix - one using VG and another using PG and the PG one will have a lot more flavor. That is just the nature of the bases.
