Source for atomizer wire?

So, I'm to the point in my pyrex atty project where I need wire to replace that which comes in these attys I've been tearing apart.

What is this stuff? 30ga? I don't think that jacket is PVC, either.

Anyway, is there a decent replacement out there? Can I use magnet wire?

Doh, sorry, shoulda been more clear. I didn't mean the nichrome, I meant the jacketed wire that goes from the nichrome to the connector. I'm using 38ga nichrome, should I switch to 36?

Search nichrome wire here on ecf, theres a guy trying to make attys and will know exactly what ur asking for...Im sure hed be able to help you out, or better yet help each other...Id love to see someone come up w a new atty!!!!

I got nichrome in spades, what I don't have is the stuff its soldered to.

I replace the wire with enameled wire. Much easier to thread through the atty to work with. Rat Shack has a 3 pack. I prefer the red 26ga.
The nichrome wire in most factory attys is 38ga. 36ga is easier to obtain, slightly larger in dia (.001) so it's more durable.
36ga wire is 20 ohms per ft. So with most attys 3.2-3.4 ohms 1.25-1.5" is a good length to wind.

The enameled wire coating is tough and heat resistant. If you want more protection slip the plastic jacket over it once its fed through the ceramic cup.

Excellent, I'll give it a shot. I'm glad I don't have to order some FEP-coated stuff from India.

How long do your rebuilt attys last?

Longer than the coils do........................lol
Just make sure you check the ohms before you close it all up to make sure the metal mesh didnt scratch through the enamel coating. Not usually a problem.
Setting them a little higher from the bottom helps as it gives more diatance for the carbon before it restricts and put pressure on the wire.
