What type of battery is that? Doesnt look like any ive ever seen before. I would say efest.. Looks purple. But i dont remember seeing a barcode on an efest

he was sitting at the computer vaping with it, it started making a sizzling sound, within a few seconds it got so hot he couldn't hold it. Best I can tell the battery shorted internally.
No he tossed it when it got hot. He said it popped then it went into Roman candle mode. He said the last charge on that battery took much longer to reach full charge, which he thought was unusual but put it in anyway. The board inside and the battery leads don't appear to be damaged from looking at it. Mainly the battery compartment and under the battery. Blistered the paint though. Iam sure the chip is probably damaged, just looks ok visually. I have a sx350 atlas mod that the battery got really hot when I upgraded the firmware to 60 watts because I left the battery in during the flash, but no damage , still using both. I wonder if that's what he did although he didn't mention it. Said he was simply vaping as usual at 35watts.
Wonder if it was a 4 with magnetic cover if you could yank the battery before damage occurred. I know it seems stupid but them thangs ain't cheap

Held on by two screws , but....they had stripped so he had his little girl's ponytail holder wrapped around it to hold the cover in place, he's been using it that way for months...lol. he told me taking the battery out was not an option. I tried to upload the photo of the cover, but the image is 1.02 megs, just over the 1 meg cap..Wonder if it was a 4 with magnetic cover if you could yank the battery before damage occurred. Overdraw on an underpowered battery? If its the 3100mah Efest.....that's a <10A battery.

It does seem like the battery may have been the cause rather than the mod, although I question the built in safety features of the chip. I think the chip should've refused to fire the atty if too much current was being pulled from the battery. I know Busardo's initial review of the sx mini showed the sx350 chip has that protection. I guess the sx330 doesn't?
A Mod can't protect against a battery with an internal short, no matter how smart the regulation is. An internal short is exactly that.
And it's extremely difficult for a mod to protect against using an under-rated battery at power levels it's not designed for.

yep. Chip can/may shut down if temp is too high. But once the battery's PTC goes (from too many over-spec current draws) all bets are off. Those dern Efests.....
And I just purchased one of the new 2900 mah 35 amp efest yesterday....lo.frickin l
Just treat it as a 20 amp cell. That's what almost all of those Efests actually are anyways.
The only efests I EVER had that were decent were the 2500mah which turned out to be rewrapped LG HE2's.
