I have some spare kits and was wondering if I should charge the batteries now, or wait until I decide to use them (which could be a long while since I have a bunch of stand alone battery backups that I purchased).

Does it make a difference?

I know I should probably test the parts in the kits that I bought just in case something doesn't work, so I'll be able to notify the supplier before the warranty expires, but what if I decide, in the future to give that kit away? I hate to open it unnecessarily.

I'd appreciate any thoughts!

No you don't need to charge the batteries if your not using them right now. They will be shipped partially charged. The batteries are best stored partially charged - not fully charged, or fully discharged. This will give the longest life in storage. Even unused, the batteries slowly lose their capacity over time.

Unfortunately there's no way to test if the parts work without opening the kit. I found with most of the kits I've bought the only thing sealed in airtight wrappers was the cartridges. If you just want to test the batteries or atomizers work I'm sure it could be done without anyone being the wiser!
