Anybody else spilled the concentrate!?! I attempted to use a glass luer slip instead of a luer lock needle, and I filled up 1.2 ml of TFA strawberry ripe concentrate, and it slipped right before it made it into the bottle, and boom right onto the concrete shattered...

Now my little garage smells heavily of fresh strawberries. But my main concern is inhaling the fumes. I would like to finish. May seem funny since we do inhale these concentrated flavors, but it's just worrying me, and having anxiety really sucks! Any reassurance would be great right now!

You can download a pdf of the MSDS for any flavor directly from tfa to see what it says about inhalation of concentrated fumes. But I really wouldnt worry about it. It's not like you spilled a five gallon bucket of it which is closer to what most MSDS are addressing about exposure. For your situation, a little vial spilled on the concrete and then wiped up with a paper towel isnt really going to do much as far as causing a concentrated "fume" level in the air space except giving the room a nice strawberry scent :)

Thanks, but I literally ran up stairs without cleaning it up. Lol and it soaked into the concrete. And yes it does smell very nice, I will check out the msds on tfa now. Thank you again.

Prolonged exposure at high levels may cause damage to the liver, kidney, gastrointestinal tract, central nervous system and lungs. It may also cause difficulty in breathing, headache, nausea/vomiting, stomach pains and sore throat.

This the only thing that caught my eye in the msds.

But it does not tell how long prolonged is. 5 minutes? Don't know

Yep, read that too. I doubt 1.2ml is considered anywhere near a high level. But this never crossed my mind spilling the actual flavoring. I was always concerned with spilling the nic...

I spilled about 4ml of the darkest TFA chocolate flavor on my jeans one day.

Amazingly, even though it was a huge "beyond brown" spot, it rinsed right out. After a wash, they didn't even smell like chocolate!

But it sure did at the time. I have a feeling you won't suffer any ill consequences, as I didn't :)

Look at it this way; if you dropped a bottle of artificial strawberry flavoring from the supermarket, would you freak out?

[edit] Looking at the full MSDS, I see no exposure limits for any of the ingredients and no requirements under Accidental Release Measures other than "Ensure adequate ventilation," so you are probably pretty safe. MSDS sheets can sound really intimidating, but if you do not see a short term exposure limit (STEL), permissible exposure level (PEL), or time weighted average (TWA) limit, you do not need a hazmat team. It does say it can be a skin irritant, so wash if you got any on yourself.

Interestingly, the .doc safety sheet language is different, and carries the scarier sounding precautions quoted above, but that is not the actual MSDS sheet. I'm guessing they use a one size fits all safety disclaimer to cover their butts in those other documents.

Here is an MSDS for something that is actually a little scary:
http://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9927339

Look at Section 8: Exposure Controls/Personal Protection, under the Exposure Limits heading. When you see exposure limits like those (TLV, TWA, STEL), you have something serious. If you see IDLH (immediately dangerous to life and health), that is something you should freak out about

Of course not, but I work In a 1 car, unventilated garage, and being that it was right below my table where it spilled, I was getting a nose/mouthful...

It is good that you reacted quickly, even if it was not an emergency, since you did not know the hazard level. Now you have some practice for if you spill a bunch of 100 mg/ml nic. As the saying goes, don't panic, there will be plenty of time for that later. But even a nic spill is not an extreme crisis, unless you get it all over yourself or someone else, or if kids or people with no nicotine tolerance could come in contact with it. Of course getting that in your eyes, an open wound, or ingesting a bunch of it could be a serious emergency, but if you are wearing gloves and eye protection, you should be OK. If you get it on your skin, wash it off right away.

Having some ventilation when mixing is a good idea.

I ordered some flavors and when it got here a 30ml glass vial of Pomegranate had broken. It was leaking through the box it came in and everything else in the box was saturated in it. I just took the box to the sink. Washed all the unbroken bottles and discarded all the packing materials. I could still smell it several days later but suffered no ill effects from it. It never even crossed my mind to be concerned about side effects from the odor. I wouldn't give your very small spill a second thought. But that is just me.
