Disclaimer: I did not invent these ideas, merely adjusted the rolling paper trick to meet my problem of the perpetual hot top coil.
Ok this is quick and simple.
Methods used.. Jack frost method for oxidation, because it makes the SS mesh easier to roll
rolling paper coil method.. with my addition.
Problem: I suck at oxidizing... No mater how many times I oxidized on my DID clone, and no matter which method, i always shorted out. I oxidized to the point of breaking the wick and it still had continuity right before it broke. I burned juice on it.. EVERY method I found just didnt seem to work with me and I use a Propane torch, but tried with others. I also failed at the original rolling paper method, with or without oxidation. Maybe its the El Paso altitude, changing of seasons, or me not knowing what I am doing.
Solution: Here is where I cant imagine someone else had not done this before and why I am scared. I used rolling paper around the ENTIRE wick. Follow methods for cig paper on the coil of the wick except through the entire wick. With the tank off slide the wick through the wick hole. It should be a tight fit and require some TLC and twisting to not rip the paper. Now there is paper insulating the wick from the "ground" of the plate. Remove the paper that will be inside the tank with a toothpick. It will tear easy and cleanly at the top because its wet with juice used to make it stick to the wick. Leave the top paper and wrap coil. Burn off paper with some dry burns, inner "hole paper" will remain. Fill tank, vape. Not a single short to ground/hot spot since.
