SS rope questions

I'm using SS rope for the first time and am having a couple of issues. First is muted juice flavor and the other is a strange flavor not from the juice. I don't know if I did something wrong or not. Is this normal for the first little bit and if not what can be done to fix it?

I've never used SS rope before, but I found that preparation is key to avoid most (if not all) strange taste from the wick. How did you prepare the SS rope?

You shouldnt be getting an odd taste but less flavor at first is normal.

I torched the rope till it was glowing o get rid of any oils etc. and then put a seasoned bit of mesh around the top. Wrapped a 3/4 wrap of 32ga kanthal. How long should it take to get a good amount of flavor?
