I've always used mesh in my rba's, and it has served me very well, however there seem to be people out there who just cannot master making a mesh wick or working out hot spots in their coil with a mesh wick. I'm not sure what the problem is for them, but I've not had it. Mesh has always worked great for me. I cannot speak to cable wicks, I've not tried them, but have noted that those who use them advocate wrapping them with mesh.

I seem to be doing just fine with a mesh wick rolled tight and don't see the point of putting cable in the middle of it at extra cost. I thought about trying the porous ceramic wicks, but they are known to be quite fragile and break very easily, and around here they are not cheap, so that put me off.

I've also tried cotton, in my dripper, an IGO-W, and for me the whole dripper/dual microcoil/cotton thing just didn't get it. I went right back to my mesh wicked genesis rba's and stayed there. I think if you invest the time to learn how to make a good mesh wick and work out the hot spots in your coil you will be good to go and happy with the results.

I use both cotton and mesh depending on what Genny I'm building. For the mesh I roll it tight, but it still has a tiny hole through the center, then I slip a small section of Eko over the coil end and wrap my coil over the Eko this will prevent shorts through the wick, and you don't have to torch the Mesh doing it this way. for cotton I make a micro coil and feed my cotton through the coil and into the wick hole down into the tank area
