  • So, my RTAs are making me cough (some of them) and I never get to "burnt taste" before I have to rewick, honestly, I wind up rewicking early (although to be fair, sometimes the rayon does look grody) but I was like, "It can't be the SS, because it's not ALL my atomizers, like the doggies, etc.) However, then I realized I had a bunch of exotic builds in those....

  • It also doesn't seem to be happening with my NEWER SS coils but again, I will cough on a couple, and one I JUST rewicked and recoiled, so IDK. I'm trying turning down wattages, I will try replacing with new coils, some of them.
But... I'm wondering if I'm sensitive to SS, or at least the byproducts in SS, wicking, something. I mean, I have a new coil and wick in one that's causing a hacking cough, and I'm pretty sure it's not the flavoring doing it?

Anyone have a SS sensitivity want to compare symptoms? I'd like to know if I need to buy/make a bunch of kanthal coils, and no it never happens in my kanthal only tanks.

Leaning toward a possible maybe, I just don't know. Maybe I need tor just recoil my SS tanks more often, IDK>

Stols001, have you considered trying ekowool hollow cord?

Never used it myself, but I'm planning on using some with an Ammit 25 when I get them.

It's made from silica fibre and has a temperature range that you'll never get close to with a mod. And it can even be cleaned with a blowtorch, but you have to watch your insulators.

But you're certainly right that it's possible to have a sensitivity to Nickel, Chromium or whatever else may be in the alloy.

Quick question though, does it happen with any particular flavours or brands of liquid?

It was particular bad this a.m. which is why I posted. I have not tried ecowool.

Any juice I've had coughing fits with, I've tried in a drop in (kanthal) coil and it has been fine.

Also, l JUST remembered, I actually smoked a cigarette yesterday, which is probably why it's worse.

I have a feeling that perhaps that one tank doesn't play well with that juice, but I've turned the wattage down, and like, I didn't think it was overwicked because it leaked slightly initially, However, it is still possible to overstuff the coil and thin the tails enough so there is leaking.

Right now, it's 2sirens giving me grief, not the liquids. I think I probably should rewick them and for now turning things down is fine....

I don't think eco wool would assist me with my wicking technique, I think rayon is probably PLENTY for my wattages of 7 to 14 if I wick right. Yeah, if I had even REMEMBERED the cigarette I would have been like, "OH." I think I'm going to need a bit more tail and a bit less coil, plus not smoking again (not planning to but it was a rough one yesterday. It has been nearly a year I think I forgot the "cough til you drop am fun. Sigh.)

I'd be really surprised if I had a SS allergy and also, the Sirens I vape higher wattage than my other tanks. I am gonna guess that is it.

Thanks!

Wow! Taking it back old school there...

Reminds me.. I still have a bunch, even 4mm which I never used 'cause I rewicked evod coils.... can't fit that in there..

Always wondered how that stuff would work in a sub-ohm. Just never got to trying it.

No the weird thing is all my exotic coils are vaping GREAT and at low wattages. Those two Sirens are the only ones that actually have a round wire build in them,.

I mean we are talking MTL sized Clapton coils and one is at 0.7ish resistance and I'm vaping at 10.5 watts.

Maybe I'm getting a super cool and chill vape by like under heating the exotics and I need to turn them down more (the sirens). IDK.

I'm going to do a teardown and investigation this week. It could be I'm just a puny lunatic though, that's a possibility.

I will say I find exotic coils a billion times easier to wick right (I have no clue) have never once leaked or dry hit on an exotic. I have done that with round wire. Hmmn.

Anna

I shall turn them down and see.

Hmmm, 9 and 7 watts, and it seems better I did a smidge of chain vaping, no issues.

I no longer use SS 316 because it has nickle in it. I don't cough but the mucosa of my mouth becomes irritated, somewhat inflamed, after a bit of use. Went back to Kanthal and left TC behind.
Now, a company called Unkamen has a stainless 430 that they claim is Nickle free, if your problem is the nickle, Unkamen may be your answer.
