I have destroyed two of these trying to put them back together using the clamp or hammer and 3/8 tube and tapping them into place. You can't see at first but there is two very thin washers with a silicon seal in between them and that is what I have destroyed. I have not removed the bottom chrome ring. I can't seem to get it to release no mater what I do. I have seen all the videos and post on this and tried each and every one of them. The one where you take the mouth piece off and push the innards up a little and then pull that lower metal ring off sounded pretty promising but no that doesn't work either. I believe these are super glued on. So if someone has figured this out please share. These are the ones that have a little cone going into the mouth piece. I'm down to my last one so lets not diddle dally around. LOL Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jerry

After the first couple of batches, it seems these are now being made so that it's impossible to take them apart without destroying them.

But I've good luck restoring them by simply cleaning. I use 91% isopropyl alcohol in a cheapoid ultrasonic cleaner. I also baste the inevitable cracks in the plastic with Ambroid plastic solvent to weld shut the cracks. Then they're as good as new. My two oldest Stardusts have had about 100 ml. vaporized in them and, after cleaning and basting, they still vape like champs.

If the coil still works, I wouldn't mess with it. But if the coil is fried then you have nothing to lose. I was able to get the skirt off the bottom in some of my earlier stardusts, but it was quite difficult and I ended up deforming the skirt to do it. However, once you get the skirt off, the rest is a piece of cake. I decided I would wait until I burned one out before trying to take another one apart. So far, haven't burned any out but retired 3 due to cracking. I'm planning on using them again once I fix the cracks, but don't know where to get the ambroid solvent at.

Has anyone ever just taken out the middle tube without removing the tank part and then replaced the wick and wire via some long thin tweezers. Kind of like building a ship in a bottle? In my head it works lol...

Ron -

P.S. if it does work it must be coined 'Ron's Ship in a Bottle' technique, or RSB for short!!!

I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't work. However, to pull the post out, you screw it on to a battery and pull. It worked fine for me, but I was hesitant to try it with the skirt on because I don't know if the added tension would make it harder to pull and I didn't want to wreck my battery. The plastic tank is squeezed between the skirt and the base of the post, so I'm thinking it would take a lot of force with the skirt still on. I guess if you have a dead battery or just an adaptor it's worth a try.
