hello all, I am definitely a newbie to e cigs and have to admit being a little overwhelmed by all the variations or possibilities. I have a gazillion questions but will ask more once I get back from my local vape shop. I was wondering, however, if I should be concerned about whats actually in the liquid I buy. I've done some reading and it seems the greatest concern (or one of them) is that the liquid concoction is so varied and unregulated that some many be more hazardous than others. Is there a way to protect myself from buying one that is potentially more hazardous than another? Also I came across this special offer at the only vape shop I could find in my city Sacramento and was wondering if it was a good option. Thanks in advance for any help and bear with me if I'm asking stupid questions.

Welcome to ECF. Glad you joined us.
RE: Juice - purchase from a reputable supplier. ECF has many reputable suppliers here in the forum. They don't just let any and every supplier promote their products here at ECF. The suppliers are carefully selected by the people who manage this forum. And they have strict requirements of each supplier that promotes products here at ECF. You have come to the right place.

You ask for opinions, and here is mine. I would go with the eGO complete kit and the price on that website it tooooo high - way toooo pricey - you can get better prices on the same or comparable product at another website. Hey! It's the internet. You will find better prices on the internet than you will get if you walk into a vape shop.

If you have a vape shop in your area, you might consider visiting it. They allow you to pick up and hold pv's. They will help explain how they work, etc. And many of the vape shops allow you to test juices. You can purchase equipment and juice right on in the store, or you can go home and think over what you saw, learned, tasted, etc. The choice is yours. But finding a vape shop in your area is a good idea. You never know when you will have a vaping emergency and need to pick up some supplies.

One more note: 99% of everything we buy for vaping comes out of China. China just had a big holiday where the entire country shuts down for quite awhile. The factories / suppliers in China are just getting back to work. It will take a bit for the products to be made and shipped and restocked in the USA stores / websites. They are working on it :) But if you look around, google what you are looking for, chances are you will find what you want in one of the websites.

Hope this helps a little.
Happy Vaping,
Paula

PS - here is an example of what I mean by pricing. I am not affiliated with this supplier. I have used them and they have provided me good products and service, as have many others I have used over the years. Google is your friend :)

Hi and welcome. If you are looking to try an inexpensive "cig-a-like" just to try, I posted a link below to some for $17.99. The "Volt" by Smokeless Image is the cig-a-like people seem to like the best, but one of their kits is a little more expensive. Since it appears (from looking at the kit you linked to) that you just want to try something without investing too much. Starter Kits

As far as the safety of e-liquids. The liquids are made of propylene glycol ("pg") and vegetable glycerin ("vg") - in varying ratios and flavoring. Some people are sensitive to pg, so get liquids higher (or 100%) vg; there are also some people sensitive to certain flavorings. The are a couple that make my eyes a little puffy when I vape them. I like the taste, so I take a Benadryl and vape away. I smoked cigarettes for 40 years that who knows what was in them - I'm not worried.

ETA: Okay - forget what I posted. From the OP, I thought you were looking to try a cig-a-like. If you are serious about wanting to try "real" vaping, I completely agree with the eGo/Kgo recommendations. ;)

Thank you very much Paula. I will check out the suppliers on this web site and crawl the web. I will also check out the store as I really would not now what to do with the kit when I got it- are there decent instructions that come w/ the kits?

I have yet to see a kit that came with decent instructions.
youtube is your friend -

Sometimes, but often when instructions are included the English is poor and doesn't make a lot of sense. Figuring out stuff works isn't difficult, we're here to help you.

:oops:Hey Ocelot, would you recommend the 510 T Starter kit over the Ego Ce4 kit. Looks as if the 50 T is one I can re-juice (not sure if that's the right terminology) or are cartridges better. The Volt you recommended looks good too but would it be more expensive over the long term- arg asking too many questions and confusing myself. Simply, wadya think 510T, Ego Ce4 or Volt pack kit.

Hello, Telepod! Welcome to ECF!

First of all, is that store in Sacramento a brick-and-mortar store? Or are they online only? I'm not sure. One of the best online (and brick-and-mortar) outfits in California is Liberty Flights, where I shop often, as they are literally next door. Their prices are better than those in your link.

Wrt eliquids, there's a lot of misinformation about it in the press. First of all, may I suggest that you take a few minutes and read our Info Zone. There's a lot of great, basic information for people interested in vaping. Look at the choices of e-cigs there are, what are their pros and cons, and then come back so we can guide you through the process of selecting the right kit for you. Read also about eliquids and their ingredients.

If you just want to try what an e-cig tastes like, you may order a free sample from enjoy. You can get an enjoy disposable e-cig (a very good one), you just have to pay 3 bucks for shipping and handling.

Thanks a bunch Katya, I just ordered a free sample from njoy. Also it's an actual wood and concrete (no brick and mortar on the west coast-ha) store. I will also check out Liberty Flights- should I mention you and get you a future discount :>}
Thanks again

I won't get any discounts from them, I assure you, other than the 20% off that all ECF members get. But say hello to Ty!

My motives are pure.

No good deed goes unpunished.

This is just my opinion but I think its a good way to start. Like some others have said, shop around for a genuine Joytech 510 (small battery, similar to size of an analog cigarette) or an Ego which is larger. Look into a simple kit like the T-tank. Then, shop around for cartomizers and tanks, I like Kanger, Boge and Vision, test them to see what you like with various liquids PG and VG and mixes.

My son and I started with Mistic (walmart). Great to get you off the analogs.
He since graduated into all kinds of batteries and delivery systems.
I tried the ego but to me it seemed too much work -- all the filling and dripping...
I bought a volt kit and I love it. The batteries don't last all that long, but if you're into easy this is the way to go.
Still much cheaper than the real thing (especially if you live in NY), and if you want to experiment you can buy the blank cartridges.
I've been refilling my chocolate from the sampler for days now.
