I'm looking to start vaping. Totally recreational as I haven't smoked in years.
The bulk of what I can find to read is for smokers who start vaping to replace cigarettes.
I'm going to try to replace snacking with vaping.

I know I want e-juice w/ 0 nic. I've got a list of vendors that sell sample kits. Does anything else change ?

What's a good starter kit for me? I don't want to spend to much as I will get a 'better' mod (etc.) once I find out what features I like and what kind of vaper I am...
Does a temp. control mod eliminate setting watts?
What's a good vendor?

Pretty much there are lots of low cost mods that will work for you. TC doesn't really eliminate setting watts. Most mods now come with TC but you still need to set an acceptable wattage for the coil on most. Too low watt and no vapor too high watt and too much throttling of the power resulting in poor vape. TC can be finicky. TC also can only be used with Titanium, Stainless Steel or Nickel wire.

What to look for in a mod kit is going to be based on what you want for vape style. A lot of clouds, a tight cig type draw, etc.

I’m assuming you want a zero nicotine vape. The cheapest way I know of to test out that is a pod mod with refillable pods. The one I’ve used is the warlock PEAS which costs about $13, but there are a ton of them out there and you may find a better deal. The only way I can avoid snacking myself is to not keep any snackable items at all in the house.

This is a decent little kit for cheap. You may find it cheaper elsewhere. It comes with a tank. If the tank doesn't suit your style that part can be changed to a different type. You would need separate 18650 batteries for it.

Eleaf iStick Pico Kit

This is a small decent built in battery kit. The tank on it is going to put out a lot of vapor. Again the tank is changable.

I'd say your best bet would be to buy a decent but not to expensive box mod (likely with two batteries) that is capable of TC, and then a smaller MTL tank like the Nautilus 2 or the Ego One Mega V2, only use the CLR coils (they are not the coils that come with the tank, I don't think) or a Tron-S (also takes the CLR coils, I'd start with the 1.0 ohm ones) very satisfying, great flavor, one of the easiest drop in coils to rewick and rebuild and they last a long time. I'd also buy an inexpensive drop-in coil sub0hm tank or crossover tank like the Uwell Crown 3, which also has a wide variety of resistances (although IMO, it's not as restricted a vape, possibly, as a "designated" MTL tank.

That should give you a mod you can use for a long time, and you will have a back up "stealth" or "cloud" tank ,and can go from there.

I honestly believe this is the most efficient and cost-effective way to determine what "type" of vape you will enjoy, and if you absolutely hate one or the other, you can resell it.

Welcome back to vaping.

What you get is going to depend on not only what your vaping style might turn out to be, but also what do you want out of vaping.

I build my own coils and make my own ejuice... I like a certain style of vaping but when you get into the DIY aspect needs might change.

My first kit was an ego battery with a ce4 clearo - two batteries was 10.95. My first bottle of ejuice was 5.00. The ejuice lasted one full week, the batteries one year. The clearo's I had to replace weekly.

I traded up from the ce4's to the t3s clearo. I was happy there... very happy actually. .. I didn't know there was better and while i didn't like leaky tanks I could live with them.

What you don't know simply doesn't affect you. Granted, I bought something else and was like wow.. this is AWESOME! And then I traded up and got into building my own coils etc - but i didn't ever need to.

And if you don't know what else exists, or what that is like, you may find yourself sufficiently satisfied with something small and inexpensive.

But, if upfront your knowing you want into the hobby aspect, that might change what you may prefer to start on.

If you looking at vaping from a hobby aspect perspective, I'd say start with a PICO 25, the full kit, and do what Anna said and get a MTL tank to go with it like the Zenith.

Innokin Zenith MTL Tank | Phil Busardo & Dmitris Agarafiotis Collab

Eleaf iStick Pico 25 85W TC Starter Kit | Includes ELLO Sub-Ohm Tank

That way you'll have growing room.

But. If all you want is something to hold in your hand to periodically stick in your mouth, well then I'd go with the innokin endura t-18.

I'm saying this because full bore into the hobby aspect can be pricey... of course it is what anyone makes of it.. but it's kind of a thought for some.

@Opinionated gave some very solid advice and recommendations. I totally agree. :thumb:

I'm going to try to replace snacking with vaping.
I worked in a vape shop in 2014. I had the pleasure to meet a very attractive and engaging married couple who were semi-professional body builders. Prior to a competition, they undergo a very restricted diet, and must eliminate all sweets and snacks. They were investigating vaping with zero-nicotine flavors to assist in their training regimine.

They were very interested in purchasing a vaping setup after trying a sample in the store, but wanted to go home and think about it more. I don't know if they ever returned to buy one; at least I never saw them again. I thought the concept they presented to be interesting.

It's difficult to make a foolproof recommendation, because it is impossible to predict what type of vaper you will be or what you may like. And personal preferences often change as time goes on. You could begin with a pod system which would be the simplist, easy to use system. The liquid pods are disposable, replace them with propietary prefilled pods which contain new coils. You don't have to learn the peculiararities of the individual open system tanks.

An intermediate step up would be an eGo battery system with a clearomizer tank. This is considered a open system. You manually change the coil when necessary and add your e-liquid manually as needed.

A "mod" system is also an open system. These setups have the most options available, but through that they can be more complicated. Most of these are set up to "grow" with you as you become more experienced.

Temp control is a relatively new concept in vaping, and I'm not totally convinced all the snags have been worked out yet. Instead of setting "watts", you still are setting "joules". As many if not most mods today include TC as well as wattage, you'll probably end up with a mod that has both features. Both are "variable power", which was a game changer for me. In the early day I generally start out around 30 watts, but as the day goes on I might fancy a higher setting like 40 watts.

Over the years I've often purchased from My Vapor Store ; orders are usually received with 3 -4 business days. I've also purchased from Fast Tech if I don't mind waiting 2 - 3 weeks on a slow boat from China. FT will generally have the more economical prices anywhere.

That link goes to a post that's 5 yrs old... I'm pretty sure it's outdated.

No... the poster has done a very good job keeping it up to date. The Jac only came out a few months ago, they are still all the rage for lower wattage vapers. (Provari lovers absolutely go nuts over it.. so it can't be all bad because provari was one of the best mods ever made. A year after provape closed they are still going for hundreds on ebay so that crowd going over to a Jac says something about that mod )

It's well worth taking the time to read. Nothing on that blog is not sold on the market today and the Information is very relevant to any new vaper.

Learning about vaping from long time vapers can be very beneficial.
