Sounds like it could be your button which isn't screwed in the tube deep enough and prevents the button pin contacting the center battery pole. Check from above with the top cap off if the button pin is contacting the pole. Check also that your spring is not collapsed.

The spring looks like crap for sure, but no one has replacements, but I did order a brass firing pin from COV.

What Imeo means is that the new center battery pole in the new bottom cap has a spring loaded brass pole cap. No spring is visible, it's internal and cannot get damaged. I've seen it and it's miles ahead of the older system

Will be ordering one.
