i am big on candy flavors do a lot of my DIY creations will be bubblegum, strawberry candy, etc etc. Do all DIY liquids need to be steeped or are sweet, fruit, candy Vapes need less time?

Hello and welcome to ecf.

You will want to browse this section of the forum: DIY E-Liquid read some of the threads, (old and new) and then ask your questions there after you read more about DIY.

But yes, you will need to steep your e juice after mixing.. it will change flavor after giving it some time to steep, becoming stronger with a little time. You can give a taste right after mixing, then taste again in a week, then after two weeks and see how the flavor changes over time. Two weeks is how long I would recommend steeping, but your particular recipe may be fine after 1 week.. the above tasting procedure will give you an indication of how long a steep time you will need.

I vape a lot of fruity liquids straight away, but I use more flavor than many people.
If you make it, vape some of it and leave it to meld-steep-mix-age (!?), by the second or third week it's normally at it's best. The occasional juice I forget about can be great a few months later but it's not guaranteed.

Welcome and glad you joined.
Some mixes are shake and vape (SnV) and some require more aging depending on the taster.

My approach is mix, stick in hot water for awhile (easier to shake to mix by decreasing the viscosity of the VG), let it air out overnight and vape the next day.

My personal experience has been that something that tastes good the next day may or may not improve with age. If it tastes lousy the next day, I've yet to see one become vapable by leaving to steep for weeks on end. That does not seem to be a universal finding (maybe it's just me) so YMMV.

I generally shake n vape anything that dont have alcohol in it. If your not sure just smell it. Smells like nail polish remover. If it does just give it a warm bath like Eskie suggests to let the alcohol evaporate or you can steep it for weeks to do the same thing. Bath tends to lose flavour faster then proper steeping but mine is long gone before that happens anyways. Basically depends if your making a few months worth or a few weeks worth or less.

Hi Bubble & welcome
They say the fruit flavors need little or no time steeping and I'll say they don't seem to change much with time. The creams and bakery tastes are supposed to require more time for these flavors to advance and be noticeable. I would tend to agree based on my experiences. What it really comes down to is if you like it, vape it, if you don't give it some more time, and after 6 months if its still no good then give it up and recycle the bottle.

Steeping has traditionally meant have patience and give the juice time. Some folks have tried to speed the process along by giving the juice a warm water bath, and/or leaving it open to breathe, and/or having a methods to stir &/or shake it really well. Whether these "faster" methods work to shorten steeping times is an ongoing debate. I've tried heating, breathing, and shaking methods but ended up just opting for time since I could notice no difference and am a patient person anyways.

Totally agree, they should come up with a different name for the purpose of the processes. Steeping is the only way to change a flavour for better or worse. Example TFA Ripe Banana tastes like Banana Runtz candy which is good but if you wanted a ripe banana you'll need to steep it 2-4 weeks. If your just looking to remove the alcohol chemical taste or clear up a clouded juice then give it a few warm baths or leave the cap off over night. Steeping just to remove alcohol is a long process and you may prefer Banana Runtz over Ripe Banana. Try making a few bottles and just shake n vape while they steep for different times to see which you prefer.

I've pretty much decided to stick with the tobacco flavors and there is enough different kinds to keep it interesting. I kind of like the sweeter taste mixed some of the tobaccos and have honey, brown sugar maple and quite a few other flavors. For trial purposes I mix 10 ml with one of the tobaccos, the latest one I ran across is Turkish tobacco and brown sugar, after mixing I gave it a try and there was no brown sugar taste so I set it aside. While putting some liquid on some wicking I used that bottle, the brown sugar taste finally came through, a little strong but mixing in more Turkish liquid cured that.
Some of the DIY are good and others take a bit of steeping and there is also I think it is airing where you take the cover off and let the air get at it.

I kinda associated steeping with DIY flavors that are made with actual stuff, rather than flavor mixes? I know some of those are best sitting for a while, but it's not overly necessary with some flavors.... I got some flavor mixes, nic, VG and so I'm looking forward to finding out!

Yeah, it is really a hit n miss thing you just need to find out yourself. Someone should do recommended steep times for different flavours like they did with %'s. I always try both shake n vape and steep before I decide.

I have mostly done that myself. I was just mentioning Mister E Liquid in another thread a few minutes ago. They have the best tobacco flavors that I have ever tried. I ordered a huge bottle of Honey Flue Cured (pipe tobacco flavor) and Roughneck (cig flavor) at 100% PG and 24 mgs nic from them to use as a mixer and they are still great over a year later. They even have a 'clove cigarette' kind of flavor called Grey Matter. It tastes like an Autumn dessert. Sort of like pumpkin pie without the pumpkin.

All depends on the liquid. Two weeks ago, I bought a Cap'n Crunch flavor and a Fruit Loops flavor. The Crunch was great on day one. The Loops still ain't right yet.
Could be your Fruit Hoops too. TFA is like lemon fruit loops or something FW is more like the cereal.
