I like the concept, but wish it was true. Have you ever had a dish, say homemade veggie soup, that just tasted better the next day when reheated? The flavors come together over time. I think the same holds true for many juices, though some of them DO taste great the minute they've been made.

To steep or not to steep will always be a question...

I REALLY like your enthusiasm though. Pass it on. :)

Check out this video: YouTube - Steeping Tips and Tricks - and get back to us........

What I see is that the juice in the video got darker. This could be because it was left open to the air and some impurities got in or the nicotine or flavor just got darker. Does that mean it tastes better? And if it does, how much better can it really be? The juices I have let steep haven't improved in my opinion. However, unless it's mass hypnosis or the emperors new clothes syndrome, a lot of folks say they notice a difference.

I've pondered this over the past several days myself. I remember when I first started vaping back in April and read posts here about flavors. Back then the consensus was---If you don't like something, set it aside for a few days or weeks, your taste buds are in recovery from smoking so many years and they will change quite often. What you don't like one day, you may love the next day. Now it's the steeping thing---If it doesn't taste good, let it steep for a couple of weeks and it will taste great. Maybe we are tricking ourselves and convincing our brains that liquid is better after it is sent to the dark corridors of our "juice cellar." To be honest, I don't know the answer. I know during my life span that I have tried new foods and found them totally disgusting and then revisited them later to find the taste very satisfying and enjoyable. When I was young, I HATED spinach. Now I can't get enough of it. Did the flavor of spinach change, or did I make a choice to train my palette to enjoy a different taste experience? All of the liquids I used when I first started vaping were premixed and had been on a shelf long enough for the flavors to steep and yet I couldn't handle the taste of several. Some I went back to and found them pleasant and others were given away. With so many flavors being mixed to order, there's no way every bottle of "x" flavor can be churned out identical each and every time. The vendor's flavorings will vary from time to time through no fault of their own, as will the VG and PG batches. I'm leaning more toward us training ourselves to like something we don't like on the initial taste test because we prepared ourselves to like it when we placed our order and got excited about the arrival. If we were disappointed, we told our brain that a certain time period would make flavor come together and meet our expectations. Is it mind over matter? I dunno, but it's definitely food for thought.

Very nice young gal in the video, somewhat deluded, but aren't we all at times. An unfortunate victim I'm afraid, of a cruel hoax put out there some time ago in the diy forum.
Left unchecked it now runs rampant across the land, bringing untold misery, emotional stress, and even forcing some to light up during long periods of steepage.

Please, let's all now do our part to stamp out this practice once and for all, and end the sufferage of steepage.

Thank you,

smonomo.

sorry I can't agree with you on this one. Not all juices improve with age, but in my experience there are a LOT that do. Order RY4 or cherry tobacco from Backwoods. Try it the day you get it, try it a week later, try it again another week later. Are you sure it didn't change? I had some stuff from VaporBomb that was totally unvape-able the day i got it. A week later it hadn't improved much and I was pretty bummed out. Sat it aside an vaped on a bunch of other stuff. When I finally got back to the vaporbomb stuff after it had sat around for a month it was pretty good.

So is it really a hoax? Or is it more like, I don't know, just your opinion maybe?

Oxidisation of nicotine probably accounts for some of it. Nicotine yellows when it oxidises, I believe.

I will agree there is something to be said for letting DIY mixes blend for a day or two in their sealed bottles prior to use (I've noticed changes in a few of my Flavourart mixes) but I'm not convinced about benefits from leaving bottles open, and there's plenty of potential problems with it. IMHO of course..

+1 LOL I have to agree with you totally. At the most 1-2 days just like that stew in the frig. Any more than that and the flavorings starts to degrade not get better. LOL Oh the things we'll believe when vendors don't want us to think they send us garbage! Remember guys, we're addicted and the vendors are our drug dealers so we want to believe them. I've DIYed hundreds if not a thousand of batches and the only thing that changes after a day or two is that it becomes darker because the nicotine has been exposed to air and the flavorings weaken. Chocolates and creamy flavors will get better after a couple of days, but if it's bad the first day, well ya' know? And... when it's shaken vigorously the air (tiny bubbles you see) degrades the flavor molecules more. Some of the videos I see make me laugh at how ignorant some of these attention-needers can be! But until you've been around awhile you believe them.

Not all juice changes with time. A lot of it shows it ready to vape out of the mail. Certain brands are no different a month after you first opened them, some juices within a brand may require a week, maybe weeks to stop changing. Two Backwoods juices were dramatically different after 3 weeks. One Halo juice arrived that was unvapeable. 48 hrs saw it turn to vapeable. Two weeks and it was one of my favorites. The change was startling.

There obviously is no data supporting what affects these changes or what components in certain juices are the cause for them. It is not a matter of trying to convince yourself that a juice you ordered is good, so it goes through some kind of psychological time lapse whereby you convince yourself it's good. BS. I have bought plenty of crap juice, and no amount of waiting would have helped it. Someone make a poll, I bet the overwhelming majority of people vote YES, they notice a change in flavor in certain juices after a week or two.

When I first heard about this steeping thing I blew it off as BS. I figured some people were trying to make themselves feel better about vapping or some .... similar to a perfectly aged wine kinda crap. But then I found out without a doubt that it is VERY real. I had just gotten my first order of BWB Applewood and after all the great reviews about it and couldn't wait to try this stuff. Well.... My hart sank when I vaped it that first day cause to me it was plain nasty. I mean this stuff was horrid. So... I put it away for a couple of weeks and then reluctantly tried it again and I could not believe the change! It wasn't bad at all but still wasn't what I was expecting so I gave it another week and I'll be damned if this stuff isn't one of my favorites now.
Now... as for this just being in our heads, I say no way because I have some other nasty chit that I've had for almost 2 months and it still taste like dog piss and I'm skeered to try it again so it's heading for the trash.

So... Call it BS if you want (like I did) but I KNOW for a fact that with some juice this steeping thing is real. It's not as pronounced with all juices but with some it makes all the difference in the world.

The only way a poll would be accurate is if you ask the same members to come back after they've vaped for a year and vote again. LOL It's hilarious to look back at veterans' first posts when they were vaping for a few weeks and thought they were experts. It's okay, we've all done it.

LMAO! Wow! I didn't realize everyone is a rookie when it comes to knowing their own sence of taste. So tell me... When will I get my masters degree or maybe even a PHD in the fine art of knowing my own taste buds?

LOL.... That's rich.

As more data becomes available the mamoth task of determining and labeling each and every bottle with detailed steeping instructions and duration times for the multitude of flavors, blends, and flavor combinations will begin.

Until then calm down, your minds are all in a whirl at the moment, come back in the spring and we'll talk some more.
