Steeping, is it Really That Important? Or Just Posturing?

I've bought about 30+ different juices from various popular vendor here on ECF. My experience is mostly with tobacco flavors, I've had some juices tasting better and less harsh from steeping for a couple of weeks. Some flavors no major change and a couple of juices tasted mute after steeping. Do a search here for a juice that you are interested in and see what others are saying.

First time posting a pic, so hope it works.

On the left is a bottle of tobacco flavour received 27/2/14, on the right is identical nic level, pg/vg ratio received 25/4/14.

Just left at room temperature, no lid off. The colour deepens with time, so is this steeping? I don't know, but the older bottle certainly tastes better, and being called 'black gold' seems by appearance to be more as the name intends.

I knew it darkened, but until I received the new bottles, hadn't realised by how much!

I vape only fruit and menthol juices.

I have never steeped any pre-made juice I bought, and the flavour does not change imo.

I now mix all my own juices and I buy the flavours pre-made, by that I mean I will buy a concentrate that has been mixed by the supplier. So a Blueberry ice flavour will have 2 flavours in(Blueberry & menthol traditionally) it but the supplier will have already mixed them together to make the concentrate.

I make my mixes give them a good shake and vape straight away, bob on, no issues at all :2cool:

I make my own juice and have found that Tobaccos need around 3 weeks to reach their best taste, desserts 2 weeks, fruit flavours need just a few days. As for taking the cap off (breathing), sniff the bottle and if your nose wrikles up give it a few hours with the lid off somewhere dark and out of the reach of pets/kids/thieves.

Steep, age, posturing, rubbish... What the heck ever. If you like what comes out of the mailbox, vape it. If you like it after it sits around a bit, let it sit around a bit. I let mine sit awhile unless it is one fruit flavor. If I don't like it I let it sit around for a while more. If I still don't like it...well, I'm only at this for a month, so we'll see.

steeping shmeeping, do you mean flavor development? Easy to do when one makes 200-400 ml of juice per batch, by time you are ready to mix some more, everything is well developed. lol

There can be some flavor development over time, but steeping is an internet legend. No matter how long crap juice sits, it still taste like crap. lmao.

Refrigerating liquids slows down the aging process. I tend to buy my favorites in multiples. Say I get 4 - 50ml bottles of x flavor. One bottle gets set out, cap and dripper off, for two days. That allows the extracting alcohol to evaporate. I shake it when I think about it (put finger over the opening). Cap and dripper tip back on and set inside my vape station until it is needed.

The other three bottles go into the fridge right away. When I tap into the previous bottle (mentioned above) then a new one comes out of the fridge to begin its process of aging.

Doing it this way insures that I have my liquids ready when I need them.

:)

When I was a newb I didn't think steeping made a difference nor did I really care about it but after making juice for about 8 months now I have learned a lot including steeping is very real and very good. If you like the flavor of unsteeped great load it up. I have many juices I can vape right after mixing but I like to give it 5 days to a week for the alcohol to evaporate.

My quick steep technique is shake the bottle vigorously, unscrew the cap and slowly squeeze the bottle until the liquid just reaches the top then release doing this 3 times then shake for 15 seconds. I do the 3 times and shake a couple times a day. It's pushing the evaporated alcohol out of the bottle, bringing in fresh air in it's place then mixing the fresh air in by shaking and repeating.

You can cut a 7 day steep process down to 3 days this way.

Burping does help a lot (squeezing the air out)
