I haven't started steeping yet, might explain some of the bad experiences that I have had with juice. As I am reading up on steeping and the different methods used, I notice that a lot of people remove the caps and tips and let the bottles remain open for a period of time, sometimes days. Furthermore it seems that it is common to let these bottles sit in dark areas. My Concern with this method is the potential hazard with micro organisms and bacteria. By leaving the bottles open, does that not expose the e-liquid to potential biological contamination ? Could steeping not promoted bacterial growth that you could potentially be inhaling causing serious illness ? Or would the process of vaping kill any microorganisms and/or biological threats ?

Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol is commonly confused in the media with diethylene glycol as the toxic ingredient found in antifreeze. (Anti-freeze is actually most commonly made with ethylene glycol.) While propylene glycol can be found in some antifreeze, it is actually added to it to make it LESS toxic.

“Antifreeze typically contains ethylene glycol as its active ingredient, but some manufacturers market propylene glycol-based antifreeze, which is less toxic to humans and pets. The acute, or short-term, toxicity of propylene glycol, especially in humans, is substantially lower than that of ethylene glycol. Regardless of which active ingredient the spent antifreeze contains, heavy metals contaminate the antifreeze during service. When contaminated, particularly with lead, used antifreeze can be considered hazardous and should be reused, recycled, or disposed of properly.”

Propylene glycol is actually approved for human consumption by the FDA and approved for human inhalation by the EPA. It is a common ingredient in many foods and medicines, such as McCormick (and other brand) imitation food flavoring, toothpaste, cough syrup, hand sanitizer, lotions, cosmetics and more.

Microbiology 101, bacteria need a substrate aka stuff to eat, the stuff on the bottom of petri dishes is sugars, carbs, protiens etc that the bacteria eat up and grow, PG/VG is non-nutritive and bacteria can't eat it, therefore can't grow :)

Or would the process of Vaping kill any microorganisms and/or biological threats ?

Bacteria yes, most are very heat intolerant, spores like fungus, mold, mushrooms?.. not sure though.. anyone else?

biological threats? unless you have anthrax floating around your house, i'm pretty sure you're ok ;) You do breathe the air in your house where you'd be steeping, no?

like bacteria, the mushrooms/mold aren't inclined to grow in pg/vg either. paranoid about contamination, simply don't take the caps off to steep. the juice is no more exposed to anything in your house than your food is. Do you eat in a bubble?

I think you're being a bit paranoid. If there was anything to worry about in there air, you would catch it just by being wherever the juice is. Unless you steep inside your toilet....

I'm guessing his concern, warranted or otherwise, is the juice can make a home for mold, spores, or bugs to collect and grow into brain- or gut-eating colonies. I think it won't, but I also don't like to drink water left out on an open container for weeks.

Well I never take the tips off, but I take the caps off, even when I'm using the juice. Unless I'm throwing it in my bag and taking it with me, it's generally uncapped. My all day vape (dragon's blood from ECBlends) just tastes better the longer it's steeped and doesn't seem to have a max time in improving flavor. Even when I have my juice for ages, the last little bit generally tastes the best out of the whole bottle.

That said, I'm careful about what I expose my juice to. Mostly I keep it on my bedside table. My house is clean. There's not really anything that's gonna get in it from my household environment. I wouldn't keep it in the bathroom or anything lol.

Thanks Mike. That was probably the most intelligent/appropriate and least sarcastic response to mys question.

I ended up steeping some juice for 24hrs. Open Cap, dark Closet. I have to say that I didn't know how much of a difference it makes and that I probably need to go back and revisit some juices that I previously dismissed.

Thank you

Thank you, good response :)

Lol I was about to put it in my medicine cabinet because no one ever goes in there but I rethought that pretty quick lol.

PG & VG are both a bactericide.

Hahaha lol and if you step in your toilet your not concerned with what's in the air... But seriously I agree I think your putting to much thought into it and making your self worry for no reason if your concerned just use the hot water method or one lady said she puts it in her bra and it heats and shakes all at once that's what I'm gonna try next time lol :D:eek:
