Steeping your juice-is this a real thing?

I've been seeing a lot about steeping, steeped flavors and letting your juice steep. I've never heard of this before. Some posts I've read say that yes, steeping makes better flavors. Some say that steeping is a placebo effect and that the flavors can't actually get better with time. It takes me a month to get through a bottle of 30 ml and I've never noticed a change in flavor over time on any flavors.

Some sites even offer a juice line that are already steeped (for an increase in price too.)

Does anyone else do this and notice a difference?

it is for me, with some juices, they just get better tasting, less perfumy, Frankenvape needs to age a month in a dark box or it's not "lovable" for me and others, some don't need it but even those I've gotten some in higher nic from my daughter, she's down to a 3 or 6mg and the 12s or 18s she gives us taste better than some of the new ones we have and it's the same mg and liquid.

to each their own.

Yes, steeping is a real thing. A lot of flavors do not fully disperse amongst the PG and VG base for quite some time. Allowing them time to mix together (steep) the flavors start to fully mix together and if there is any alcohol tastes present, they will start to disappear leaving behind the full flavor of the juice. Some juices are great right after being mixed, while others need 1 to 4 weeks to fully steep.

Steeping can be done by simply letting the juice sit in a dark place and shaking ever day or two. There are many methods to help speed up the process that I have not personally had a lot of luck with. They are placing the closed bottle of juice in hot water for a period of time and using a sonic cleaner with hot water. I have tried these methods, but I have found that simply letting it go through the process naturally is my preferred method.

Hope this helps!

There have been liquids that I try right out of the mailbox that I think are simply not good and get tossed into a box. I always go back later (sometimes a month or two) and try them again. Surprisingly some make it out of the box of doom.

I'm also a big fan of Bryce's juices which are good FOOB but become extreme after 30 to 60 days. The Banana Crème Pudding once it goes to amber is fantastic. I was a skeptic, now I'm a believe!

Everyone perceives taste differently. My daughter loves Mt. Baker Vapor's Hawk Sauce straight out of the mailbox - no steeping - whereas I have seen others post here on ECF that they do not get full enjoyment unless they let it steep for varying lengths of time. For myself, I find that bakery, custard, and creamy flavors benefit from steeping.

If an eliquid tastes good to you straight out of the mailbox, vape it. If you think it would benefit by having some time for the flavors to meld, let it steep. It is up to you and how you perceive the taste.

It's so good to know that it's true. So far I've purchased the more inexpensive juices. Knowing this once I find a flavor I'm adoring probably a dessert flavor I seem to like them best. I will know it's worth the splurge. Red velvet cake is coming today so I'm really excited to try it as it had good reviews. I keep my e juices in a dark pouch and I swear the Vanilla I purchased is getting better because of it.

DIY juices are fun and my ADV (all day vape) is a creation I came up with. There is a bit of a learning curve and a lot of trial and error involved but once you get the hang of it, its easy. Make sure to search for Clone Recipes so you can practice with proven mixes that you will like and you can then start to tweak those to your liking or coming up with great combos on your own.

My first experience with steeping came when I sampled a juice at a local vape shop. It reminded me of the first ADV, that I could no longer get. Bought a 30 ml bottle and after returning home filled a tank and began vaping. The taste was nothing like what I had tried in the vape shop. I sat it aside and forgot about it for approx a month. Decided to give it another try and ta-da it was back to being what I thought I was buying on day one.
After that experience I read up on steeping. I now use a drip atomizer for testing new juice. If a juice does not taste right on the first try I'll let it sit for a week or so and try it again. If it still is not good after a month, it's trash or PIF.

Simple Fruits - Shake and Vape. By the time they get to you, they should be ready. Use within a short time span - 2-3 weeks. Fruit flavors can easily go flat over time.
Dessert Flavors - minimum 1 week Steep. I go 2 weeks on most. The more complex, the longer to get everything to meld.
Tobacco Flavors - Many tobacco flavors are not even close to perfect for the first month. Tobacco Flavors often continue to change as they age.

Remember, if it doesn't taste right don't pitch it. Toss it in a cool dark place for a while and re-visit.:)

*Note - Steeping is inclusive of Storage/Shipping time.
I.e. order from China and it may be ready on arrival. Most are prepackaged items and have a Date stamp.

Complex flavors like custards blend a bit over time. Fruit blends don't need to be steeped IMO. The taste the same throughout the life of the juice. A couple of the ones I vape need to have the cap taken off for a bit to evaporate the alcohol.

I really think it just comes down to personal preference. If you don't like something when you first get it, steep it for a bit, then try it again.
